Yep, there we have it! The repo has been updated and all is well. Included are nice new tools like fresh-editor, rio-terminal, the yazi filemanager and nushell, just to spice up that learning curve 😜 Also included some themes, fonts and walls to start off nicely themed. Go get your mango on FreeBSD!

I have now installed #FreeBSD on
-- a Dell Latitude 5320
-- a T430
-- a Poweredge R540
and it's remarkably easy. I've got Wayland and LibreOfficeworking cheerfully on the laptops. The server took a little more fiddling because of its own weird hardware issues, but I'm setting up jails for all sorts of things. Refreshingly easy. I really missed BSD. Glad to be back.

A lot was read, some was learned and some was just copied, because it was worthwhile. My Codeberg page with the FreeBSD 15 Base install has been updated already; blog and Hyperio to follow!

Yes. So, when I got Hyprland going on FreeBSD, there was more to learn.
Decided to use ashell as a bar, rio-terminal, wezterm, nwg-drawer, walker or good ol' rofi, neovim, you name it🤣 Rust and lua.
The curious mind can be a burden, as well as a pleasure 😄
It'll take some more time, but everything is up and running. Having a great time!

#TIL: #DELL used #FreeBSD for their ThinOS thin client operating system, except they b0rked it pretty hard in terms of boot integrity.
They then switched to Ubuntu and b0rked that instead.

The, almost childish pleasure, when you sit down, take your time and in one swoop install the latest Hyprland on FreeBSD 15.1. Done it before, but in the last 2 months I just couldn't get it back to work. And now it did 🥳 Repo and how-to to follow this weekend 🍻

The repo troubles aside (latest is not fully back for me), hyprland on FreeBSD turned out to be the Turd show I expected it to be. A quick glance at the forums showed me I'm not the only one. With excellent alternatives like mango available it's time to move on. One final go at it tomorrow.morning.
Btw, the first time I had to weed through large numbers of completely useless AI slop guides. Speaking of a pile of shiite 💩

Is there any specific explanation why KDE Wayland on FreeBSD uses so much RAM? 2.3 to 2.5 gb? For me personally it doesn't matter, all these discussions are beyond me, it's not 1972 anymore. But it is noticeable and I wonder why.
