Climate amnesia: in the Netherlands, we had some winter weather since New Year. Nothing special a few decades ago, but now in the news as "1.5 week of harsh winter weather".
I just looked it up: the period of 1-12 January (average 0.6°C) would rank as #32 coldest in the 126-year record. 25% was colder.

We study nonlinearly preconditioned gradient methods for smooth nonconvex optimization problems, focusing on sigmoid preconditioners that inherently perform a form of gradient clipping akin to the widely used gradient clipping technique. Just finished The Way of Kings.
while the writing was good and the characters were good it's such a poorly plotted book that it becomes unenjoyable.
Very little happens over 800 pages and while I love character development it's no excuse for how slow this moves. I would have enjoyed this at 500 pages. At 1000 I don't even want to read more.

Got to sit in an play with a 2026 Leaf yesterday. felt good. Gonna test drive next week.
I should probably wait a year to get a used one and save money but I think the blue color will be hard to come by.
