Methane emissions cause 25% of global heating today,
and there has been a “scary” surge since 2007
UCLA Scientists have warned that this acceleration seriously risks triggering catastrophic climate tipping points.
However, cutting methane emissions has a rapid impact,
because the gas is naturally removed from the atmosphere far quicker than carbon dioxide.
Some experts call cutting methane the climate “emergency brake”.
“It is really maddening,” said Cara …

Yet one more adverse impact of climate change:
"Greater warmth enables pests to develop faster, produce more generations each year and attack crops for longer as winters shorten. Rising temperatures are also helping pests invade places further from the equator and on higher ground that were previously too cold"
In hindsight, not surprising - but this is the first time I have seen this impact publicly discussed.

The world is closer than thought to a
“point of no return”
after which runaway global heating cannot be stopped, scientists have said.
Continued global heating could trigger climate tipping points,
leading to a cascade of further tipping points and feedback loops, they said.
This would lock the world into a new and hellish “hothouse Earth” climate
far worse than the 2-3C temperature rise the world is on track to reach.
The climate would also be ver…
If humans keep heating the planet with greenhouse gases, the climate swing could lock Earth into a hothouse trajectory, as parts of the system feed on their own momentum, even if emissions are reduced later.

US plans to exploit Venezuela’s oil reserves could by 2050 consume 🔥more than a tenth of the world’s remaining carbon budget to limit global heating to 1.5C, according to an exclusive analysis.
The calculation highlights how any moves to further exploit the
South American nation’s oil reserves
– the largest in the world,
at least on paper
– would put increasing pressure on climate goals,
and risk plunging the globe further into climate catastrophe.

The Arctic is no longer a frozen periphery,
especially not after the U.S. spat with Europe over Greenland.
As sea ice melts, the High North is emerging as a strategic hub for energy, shipping and critical minerals.
It is warming nearly four times faster than the rest of the planet,
-- but what’s also heating up is the debate over who will control the Arctic routes, rules and resources that will shape global markets for decades.
