GST revenue is failing to keep up with the demands of our health system. There is a simple solution if government is brave enough to take it.

Last week I registered with Ontario's Healthcare Connect program to help us get a family doctor in the Barrie area. Our previous family doctor retired in November and we were still covered by the clinic but it's in Brampton, more than 90 minutes away. So I'm now relying on Dougie to keep his promise to find a family doctor for all Ontarians by June 2026. I mean he's done so well with housing, environmental goals, Eglinton Crosstown....
Did you know that 83% of Canadians now report they have regular access to a family doctor which means an approximate 500K improvement in the past two years. That still leaves about 6M of us without a family physician. Family physician shortages are the highest in the territories (>55%), Quebec (21.5%) and British Columbia (17.7%), and the provinces of Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and British Columbia have the fewest family physicians per 100 000 persons in the population.

I am still getting used to the fact we have access to all our health records online.
It’s really cool to be able to see everything from yesterday’s jabs to an X-ray report (though no actual image), to general doc visits and prescriptions going all the way back to 2003. Some Dr notes are visible in reports, but not much.
Oct 21 is the earliest I’ve got a flu or COVID shot since 2022 when I got COVID jabbed on Oct 15 and Flu on the 24th.
The first entries are actually HepB and Tetanus shots I got before backpacking around Europe in summer 2003.

Sunday: 2°C outside (felt like -1) and figured it was a good time for a hike in the woods, hills, and fields of #Bavaria on a trail I've been eyeing for a couple of years now. Muddy trails for about half the distance but easily negotiated.🚶‍♂️🌲
Would've liked if the walk was longer but 10.7kms felt good, especially after a 2-month break in any such activity.
