The immortals of Mount Olympos were not exclusively engaged in momentous feats. In this black-figure vase painting, three of them are shown fishing, each perched on a rock. Poseidon (not shown) holds his catch in one hand, his trident in the other. Herakles tries his luck with a rod while Hermes gesticulates at him, probably talking rather than fishing. He wears his boots, traveller's hat, and short chlamys cloak. His kerykeion staff rests in his right hand.
