Hey folks,
here's one of the photos from my recent blog post - just in case you didn't want to read the blog post ;)
Thsi was a weeka go - before winter returned. I've some winter photos from the weekend but I haven't finished them yet .. stay tuned ;)

A tranquil and inviting forest scene unfolds in this image, capturing the quiet beauty of a woodland trail in late autumn or early spring. The perspective is from behind a hiker, who is looking ahead at a winding trail that disappears into the distance. The hiker is wearing a pink headband and a green backpack, suggesting readiness for an outdoor adventure.

The trail is flanked by trees, their branches mostly bare but adorned with a few lingering brown leaves, adding a touch of seasonal transi…

Content warning: no snow here, although the outdoor thermometer was reading -6.7 °C when we got up.

So of course it's a grand day for pulling on our warmest outdoor walking gear and heading over to the Peak District.
We're experienced enough winter hikers that we know our limits: we'll be staying well away from any moor tops or anywhere that the footpaths are completely obscured by snow. But we're hoping for some glorious winter scenery in the valleys and the lower hills.

No #mountains / #hiking for me today.
I was already standing at the trailhead. But rain and heavy, wet snow - partnered with high degree of avalanche warning made me turn back home again.
After all such hikes should be fun, right?

Hands down the coolest website I've seen recently!
People calculated the longest (human) lines of sight for any point on earth!

Selected a #hiking route for tomorrow.
Just reminded myself to check the avalanche status... Selected another route...
Maybe overcautios - but my route would go over a larger alpine meadow. Even though I'd go via a south flank that is mentioned with less risk - when I'm going alone, I prefer zero risk.

Valentine walk to our local hill.
#hiking #fog #isartal

A tranquil and mysterious scene unfolds in this misty landscape. A dirt path winds its way through a gently sloping hillside, disappearing into the foggy distance. The path is bordered by patches of dry grass and earth, adding texture and a sense of natural beauty to the scene.

In the background, a group of leafless trees stands tall, their bare branches reaching into the misty sky. The fog envelops the trees, softening their outlines and creating an ethereal, almost dreamlike atmosphere. The …

This is really cool. If I was English, I’d have a goal of walking the whole thing!

Hello Stranger?
I took this photo recently on a hike on one of my local hills when I turned around and saw a stranger walking there.
I hardly ever have people in my photos, because I don't WANT people there. But this scene was so different.
The fog was just thick enough to see the person, yet I didn't feel like the person was "near". It all just felt so distant.

A lone hiker ventures through a mystical winter landscape, where bare, gnarled trees stand like ancient sentinels in a veil of soft, drifting fog. The muted gray sky blends seamlessly with the mist, casting an ethereal glow over the frost-kissed meadow. Delicate snowflakes dust the ground, adding a quiet stillness to the scene. The skeletal branches of the towering trees create intricate silhouettes, their twisted forms adding a touch of wild beauty to the serene yet slightly mysterious atmosph…

Just a little one and a half hour walk nearby before it was supposed to be raining (and rugby starts).
It was a nice walk and good to be out. Strangely, my old GPS device refused to get a location despite having lots of satellites. Just 10min before coming back (after a couple of restarts and taking the batteries out and back in) it worked.
Fortunately, I only had it with me to test if my heart rate monitor also connects to it.

A serene and inviting rural scene unfolds in this image, capturing the tranquil beauty of a forest trail. The foreground features a well-maintained gravel path, gently winding its way through the landscape. The path is bordered by a rustic wooden fence on the left, adding a touch of charm and guiding the viewer's eye deeper into the scene.

In the background, a cluster of tall evergreen trees stands majestically, their lush green foliage creating a natural canopy. The trees add a sense of depth…

Well that was simply stunning, a proper winter walk.
Home now, with a cup of tea and a mince pie (no they've not all gone yet!) and we're already planning where to go the next time it snows.
