A fairly handy new app just released: #Aivi. It allows you to create iOS live activities that can be controlled via REST, for example via #HomeAssistant. Downsides: proprietary and another subscription, but at least it’s from some guy in Sweden, not a big company or shady startup. Will probably…

@… @… #homeassistant
I know I could download an older #HAOS disk image, back up, make a new VM, and restore but frankly that's more hassle than I want to deal with.
It would also be useful in the case where someone hasn't updated in many months and may need to move forward in steps to deal with versions that had breaking changes.

#LongPost Last weekend, I spent some time figuring out how I could control one of my storage heaters via Bluetooth and #HomeAssistant. It was relatively straightforward, adjusting settings, seeing what changes happened using BLE Scanner, and then using ESP32-BLE2MQTT to handle the integration. Sorted.
I'd also noticed that the OEM app synced the heater's clock whenever it connected. "Great!", I thought, and set up an automation to do that automatically each night at midnight. Everything looked great.
Except it wasn't. During the week I'd noticed the room getting colder and colder and that the heater wasn't taking a charge. Yesterday, looking through the heater diagnostics, I saw it hadn't recorded any usage data for the week, so updating the clock at midnight was preventing it from charging. Changed that automation and - hurrah - last night gave us heat! Creda storage heater Home Assistant = win!

Is there a way in the UI for me to update #HAOS, but not to the most current version?
Basically most months I want to update to the last version of _last_ month, not the current bleeding edge of _this_ month.
I feel like this can't be that unusual a desire and I'm probably not looking in the right part of the UI.

I have a wall tablet for my #HomeAssistant. It's a Lenovo tablet that is permanently hooked up to power. It is using the battery protection feature to stay between 80 and 20% charge to enhance battery life.
It just managed to run out of power and shut down. It's now complaining that it doesn't have enough power to boot, while literally hooked up to a power cable.

Looking for inspiration for organizing my automations in #HomeAssistant, so two questions to the mastodon hive mind:

- what’s your naming scheme for the automations?

I've got the Glow Display (IHD/CAD) which works as an MQTT proxy for UK #SmartMeter readings. I can read them locally in #HomeAssistant. I've got near-realtime usage data from the the authoritative source that my energy provider uses for billing. Very cool!

Question for people who have more than one #HomeAssistant Voice PE: These things seem to have scary good microphones (mine will often hear me from two rooms over). That makes me a bit hesitant to add a second one to the mix.

Tagpush bots are less hassle than the old @a.gup.pe bots because instead of having to mention the bot to get your post boosted, all you have to do is follow the bot and any messages you post with its tag will be boosted. You'll see what the bot boosts and not have to do anything special to have it boost other than add the hashtags you'd be adding anyway.
The @… bot boosts anything its followers post with #iot or #InternetOfThings
The @… bot does the same thing for the #homeassistant tag.
