"A researcher and 'lifelong Swiftie,' discovered a new species of insect — and named it after Taylor Swift"
#Insects #Animals

Taylor Swift inspired the name of a new type of insect — and each subspecies is its own 'Easter egg'
The bugs have a “blonde” exterior and red accents, similar to Swift’s signature red lip.

Got visited by a pretty insect :)
#insect #insectodon

An black insect (I think a Euroleon nostras) with a few centimeters long, slim body, six legs, two antennas and four spread out, large wings. The wings are translucent with the venation clearly visible and have some brown spots on them here and there. It's sitting on a white wall with rather dim light and its shadow is nicely visible beside it.

Wasps are disappearing this summer, and scientists are worried
Britain’s wasps have become mysteriously scarce this summer, and scientists suspect an unusual combination of temperature swings, heatwaves, and food shortages may be responsible. Even the wasps that remain appear unusually small, potentially offering a glimpse of how extreme heat could reshape insect populations.

#butterfly #RedAdmiral #insectodon #insect

A Red Admiral (vanessa atalanta) butterfly resting on a grey shimmering metal bar on a balcony. It's photographed from behind above, a bit sideways, so its left wing is fully visible, while its right wing is aligned parallel to the view. The upper third of the wing is very dark brown, with some white spots and white border. Then there is a bright orange band across and continuing at the border of the lower half-wing, with some regularly spaced black spots. The inner part of the wing is lighter …

I did find some phone pics of the process. The most interesting steps are missing, but it's better than nothing.

(Re-uploading to this instance)
Brass cast little sculpture of a wood cube showing tunnels carved by a woodworm. Of course the tree was already firewood when I found it, I only cut it into a rough cube. And the woodworm was long gone: Wherever you are, I hope you're OK, it was nice making this collab with you.
