"As a political force, the Labour left is finished. The tactic of entryism – entering the Labour party and changing it – is finished too."
"..a string of local council victories next year would pave the way for an unprecedented challenge to #Labour – not from the right, as the party has always had to fight, but from its radical flank. And this new movement could take parts of Lab…

The 2024 #Labour Budget allocated just £11.3 billion to climate change mitigation and adaptation—covering everything from carbon capture* and
nuclear energy* to tree planting and EV charging*—compared to
at least £58 billion for military spending.
NB, those with a * are fake climate mitigation.

Why is #Labour blind to the urgent need for PR?
When there are more than 2 parties, FPTP allows parties to get an overwhelming majority of seats on a smallish vote. Labour just did it. Next time, it could be Farage. Is Labour too arrogant to recognise that possibility?

Concentration Camp Labor
Cannot Become Normal
TIMOTHY SNYDER
JUL 04, 2025
With the passage of Trump's death bill, we face the prospect of many great harms, including an archipelago of concentration camps across the United States.

Concentration camps are sites of tempting slave labor. Among many other aims, the Soviets used concentration camp labor to build canals and work mines. The Nazi German concentration camp systemfollowed a capitalist version of the same logic: it drew in businesses with…

benefits, taxes, Starmer etc
Well done disability activists for championing (relative) fairness, care and sense. You shouldn't have had to deal with that cruel nonsense, but you led the way, and I appreciate it.
Tip of the hat to Labour rebels.
Keir Starmer you should fix the tax system now. #TaxWealthNotWork.
There's a campaign for a new 2% tax on wealth over £10,000,000, which seems entirely reasonable to me.

Put in an hour tonight... practicing my rock stacking technique. The easier one first, around the intake bay. The sides are mostly sloped and there is a terrace where we can plant stuff. Ill bring the rocks up to the terrace to act as a barrier for the pebble to plant in.

the City just put in Stage 1 restrictions (we're very lucky here that we have abundant water resources, many places on Vancouver Island have restrictions almost immediately every summer)
So the clock is ticking! If we get to Stage 2 and I haven't filled the pond yet, I'll be prohibited from doing so until the rains come! We can only "top up" pools and ponds in Stage 2. And (god forbid) we get into Stage 3 or 4, the pond will have to be left to dry up. (at which point I would probably just use it as a watering source for the gardens)
I don't think we've ever reached Stage 3. The last time we got to Stage 2 was about 5 years ago I think, after the Heat Dome.
I would be surprised if we got to Stage 2 this year. It has been dry, but not excessively hot, so hopefully our resources can hold through August.
The good news is... I'm close to at least filling the intake bay and wetland filter.
Once the rest of the rock/pebble comes tomorrow I'll immediately start moving the rock into those two holes as quickly as I can, and once done, I'll start filling them with water so I can test out the pumps.
I might set up a temporary path for the water to recirculate through the intake bay and filter, avoiding the pond. That way those two parts can start to grow good-bacteria for the filter while I work on the big pond.

The rock came!! At least the first load. Big stuff 4" . About 3 yards/3.5tonnes.
The rock place doesn't have a dumper truck small enough to make the turn into the backyard, so he had to dump it on the edge of the alley.
Then Son and I moved it.
2hrs in the sun. 🥵 But we got it done. 💪
Tomorrow at 8AM they will bring 3yards of drain rock and 3yards of pebble. We'll see how much we have to scoop out of the alley.

Content warning: Keir Starmer suspending Labour rebels

"Brian Leishman, Neil Duncan-Jordan, Rachael Maskell and Chris Hinchcliffe will now sit as independent MPs."
“I firmly believe that it is not my duty as an MP to make people poorer, especially those that have suffered because of austerity and its dire consequences.”
- Brian Leishman, MP for Alloa and Grangemouth, one of many who voted against the government’s disability benefit cuts.
Respect to the rebels, for voting with their consciences even when it got them into trouble!
I wonder if any of them will join up with Corbyn & Sultana's new thing?

Content warning: Starmer & co keen to cut protections against toxins

"Want to import toxic chemicals into Britain with scant scrutiny? Labour says: go right ahead"
George Monbiot explains:
"Yes, these proposals might reduce costs for business. But the inevitable result is to transfer them to society. ...
"Many have paid with their lives, health, education or livelihoods for previous “bonfires of red tape”: through the Grenfell Tower disaster, filthy rivers, collapsing classrooms, consumer rip-offs and the 2008 financial crisis. But as long as these costs can be shifted off corporate and current government balance sheets, that is deemed a win for business and win for the Treasury."

I picked cherries 🍒 in Ontario when I was a kid (14?). I was visiting family in Niagara and it was a summer job. I did it a few days: hard work up on a ladder trying to pick as fast as you can without hurting the cherries or yourself. It was hot. The experienced mostly Jamaican workers could do it way faster than me. I lasted just a few days before the owner politely told me I should find other work. 😆
I appreciate the people who work the fields for us to have fresh fruit on the table.
