#Apple has taken a lot of heat for the controversial changes to #macOS design. I think it's possible to strike a balance* between appealing to Gen Z users, and honoring the old style. Therefore it is my belief that Apple should adopt Sigma Finder as soon as possible.

Today's #wtf computing moment; There seems to be no way to let a downloaded, LaunchDaemon started, app on #macos have access to my LAN unless the developer does some magic to it (e.g. an interactive mechanism to trigger a LAN access permission dialog).

Windows 11 is joke. Random reboots are normal apparently. After ~15 years on Linux and MacOS only, I can't understand how anyone is using this.

I think that I am replacing iTerm2 with @… Prompt on all of my machines after playing with it for a few days. They have a $20/yr or $99 price model and I don't know what makes sense. I hate renting software, though.

I don’t know about this #macOS #Tahoe glass UI. It's giving me real #Windows Vista vibes.

Unfortunately CrossOver Preview seems to have gotten rid of the "Display Settings" sidebar on the right which let you simulate different display geometries than what wine auto-detected, which was very helpful for on-the-go #Steam gaming on #macOS on my MBP since rarely does it detect proper 16:10 or 16:9.
I used this, for example, with #BluePrince to ensure the left and right sides of the display were not cropped.
As an odd, but very workable, alternative solution - if you get the free edition of BetterDisplay and have it create a Virtual Display of the aspect ratio you want and then enable it, you can go into Settings -> Displays and configure your built-in display as a mirror for the virtual display.
The net result will be that it forces your only real display to conform to match the mirrored alternative geometry. Doesn't seem to be too much of a performance impact so far, but I haven't tried it with any super intense games either yet.

And just like that, #LinuxMint is up to date, all my apps are up to date and the whole process was even less effort than #MacOS.
(I'm not even gonna touch the nagging horror of some other OSes and their breakgrades.)

When I'm on the road and set up Airplay from my Mac on the random “smart” TV in the hotel/Airbnb/etc, about half the time my browsers lose the ability to play video. Searching the Internet turns up many similar problems, but not this one. Happens all the time. This just a well-known fail?

My macOS laptop has felt... less than responsive of late.
I'm thinking about hitting the restore-to-factory-defaults type button and using Time Machine to bring stuff back.
I haven't done this procedure in probably 5-10 years.
Any hiccups or pitfalls I should know about?

I’ve never seen this memory issue on #MacOS before. I had left Safari with Mela’s share sheet/importer app snippet open overnight and came back to a nearly unresponsive computer. I assume one of these has a memory leak. I was able to reboot via the shell using SSH from another device.

If you are a vendor or developer for #macOS who has not yet moved to Universal 2 or ship a product only for the x86_64 architecture, there is extremely straight forward guidance for you here to update your product ASAP

My internal HD is 1TB. and I am using 600gb of it. When I setup my 2TB external SSD drive as a TimeMachine I received a warning that it wasn't enough space! Why! #macOS

If you're attempting to patch in Game Porting Toolkit 3 beta 1 libraries into CrossOver and following the instructions in the Evaluation environment for Windows games 3.0 beta 1 README - there is a missing step which will likely cause your Steam's steamwebhelper.exe binaries to crash repeatedly.
In addition to ditto'ing over the "external" folder that the instructions mention - you also need to ditto over the "wine" folder as well to the same lib64/apple_gptk destination
Doing both of those things, I was successful in getting it running in CrossOver Preview (20250507 / 26.0.0.39135)
