ElasticSearch is back up at phpc.social, now with 1024MB of JVM heap space as lack of heap space was the issue. Full text search is re-indexing now in the background and will likely take all day to finish.

phpc.social is now on Mastodon v4.4.5, released a little over an hour and a half ago.
We're aware of full text search issues due to ElasticSearch being cranky and will post another update when that's fixed.

So.... anyone off the top of your head know the feasibility of migrating a Mastodon instance to a new domain name?
Is it generally better etiquette to run the 3-month decom rule and spin up a new clean instance, or do a DNS redirect?

I upgraded my mastodon docker installation from 4.4.6 to 4.5.0-beta.1. Now I'm on 4.4.7 🤔

I'm running the latest code of the glitch-social Mastodon fork but don't seem to have the ability to quote-toot yet. Is there a config setting I need to enable?
Forgot to mention this earlier when I performed the upgrade but phpc.social is now on Mastodon v4.4.8. #mastoAdmin
phpc.social is now running Mastodon v4.4.4. Had to do a `yarn install` to get assets to compile, but other than that an uneventful upgrade ~5.3 hours after the release.

there's a specific fedi instance ending in .estate (you've probably seen it if you're a #mastoadmin or #fediadmin) that's been a hub for all sorts of problematic stuff. I have just sent an abuse report to:
- the domain registrar
- the nameserver operator, and

#MastoAdmin I just upgraded #postgresql from v17 to v18 without any problems !
Looks like I have this to investigate now because a warning is appearing on my admin dashboard. Whatever the problem is seems to affect Elasticsearch 7.17.23 and Mastodon 4.4.2 , because this never appeared on Mastodon 4.3.x and the suggested command only returns this error:
[400] {"error":{"root_cause":[{"type":"illegal_argument_exception","reason":"unknown setting [index.analysis] please check that any required plugins are installed, or check the breaking changes documentation for removed settings"}],"type":"illegal_argument_exception","reason":"unknown setting [index.analysis] please check that any required plugins are installed, or check the breaking changes documentation for removed settings"},"status":400}

phpc.social skipped Mastodon v4.4.6 (because I've been busy, and v4.4.7 landed shortly thereafter), and is now on v4.4.7.

#MastoAdmin PSA: I’ve been noticing many posts like this one below going around Fedi lately, and I suspect it may be a type of scam trying to promote that “global voice” account. https://social.boger.dev/@J/1151158024
I think maybe it isn't #mastodon that is slowing down and filling up #footiMac.
It's the 700GB of webcam images/videos.
Just bought a fast dual USB A/C 500GB flash stick to offload this stuff and lighten things up a bit.
This is stuff I need to archive anyway. I want to gradually build a physical USB stick based digital library of webcam imagery from the cams @….

Ok #mastoadmin #selfhost #S3 aficionados. I don’t have any experience with object storage providers. I am looking to move my self-host mastodon account here from local storage on my 2007 #footimac to my account at leaseweb. Could you help me with the answers to their queries? I suggested, completely off the top of my head and without experience, i would need 1.5TB and low bandwidth. Not knowing if that makes any sense.
“ for a 1.5 TB provision with low bandwidth usage, we can provide an estimate once we have more context on access patterns, regions, and any specific requirements.”
Thanks for any help!
