With all these UX disasters from Windows 11 to Liquid Glass, it's interesting how UIs from the 90s mostly feel just right to me—and I don't think that's just purely nostalgia or growing up with it.
Things like window borders that are visible so you know where to resize things and scrollbars that indicate the current viewport.

One thing that is still true: ICE are •mostly• avoiding affluent white neighborhoods, even ones where some immigrants live too. I’m sure there are people in places like Kenwood and Minnetonka who are seeing nothing and hearing nothing from their neighbors, and just do not understand What The Big Deal Is Anyway.
Basically ICE is keeping the StarTribune’s core constituency nice and comfy.
There are hints that pattern is eroding too, though, particularly in St. Paul.

For reasons I am revisiting an old classic: Manabe and Stouffer, 1980.
The field of climate science is now effectively mostly about proving how correct those first simulations of the gigantic carbon experiment in the atmosphere were.

Interesting fact:
Why do "vibe coders" put such a premium on stating how they don't even check the code or how it's all from the LLM? Like, if "AI" was just a tool, you'd be building all kinds of stuff but would you need to mostly talk about how you "built it just with AI"? It does at least hint at something weird going on here.

Darren Woods is known mostly as the chairman of ExxonMobil,
the largest U.S. oil company.
On Friday, however, he made noise in a different sphere by placing an obscure financial term into the political lexicon:
"#Uninvestible."
That's how Woods described Venezuela
—more specifically, Venezuela's oil industry.
His remark came during a meeting of s…

The source of bad data was a Department of Homeland Security tool called the
"Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements," or SAVE.
Once used mostly to check immigrants’ eligibility for public benefits,
SAVE has undergone a dramatic expansion over the last year at the behest of Donald Trump,
who has long falsely claimed that millions of noncitizens lurk on state voter rolls, tainting American elections.
At Trump’s direction, DHS has pooled confiden…
