Today's view from the bike.
1. Furniture partially blocking the bike lane.
2. Furniture moved by me.
3. Bus blocking the bike lane right in front of me.
4. Car that has been parking *on* the bike lane a lot recently parked somewhere else.

I made a video showing all the obstructions I saw in the bike lane today...

Bike Bits 003 is out! Cycling adventures from your old pal Petey...
#BikeTooter #mke #milwaukee

I took a (relaxing) bike ride this morning and saw half a dozen baby turtles in the cemetery, then just rambled around town aimlessly, and eventually made it back home after 15 miles.

Scenes from the morning bike commute along the Oak Leaf Trail in Milwaukee.

The red lines are my two options to get from one yellow dot to the other on my commute to work. Ideally a protected bike lane along the blue line would be ideal.
Who knows? Maybe it'll happen in the next 20 years.
(I really wish I could cut through the cemetery but Pinelawn doesn't have multiple entrances/exits like Holy Cross does.)

Bah! Paywalled article...
"Milwaukee’s emerging network of protected bike lanes & trails secured a major boost recently when the WI DOT awarded the city funding for six projects. The award will cover the cost of building bike lanes on N. Holton and W. Burleigh streets, extending the Powerline Trail at two different points, improving pedestrian safety along N. Teutonia Avenue and upgrading the city’s traffic signal infrastructure to reduce congestion."

This is great news! I’ve been using the new protected bike lane on Lisbon Avenue but it’s difficult to get to the start of it without taking the lane on Burleigh with fast vehicular traffic on your tail.
"W. Burleigh Street would also gain a protected bike lane. The Burleigh Street bike lane would run along the street as it passes Holy Cross Cemetery and Lincoln Memorial Cemetery between N. 60th and N. 72nd streets."

The latest “Bike Bits” is up…

I got sick of having to dodge these downed signs each morning so I took the time to stand them up and/or move them out of the bike lane.

This story is worth the read just for the "Sally’s Oversized Escorts" business you'll learn about.

Yesterday's route where I almost got it right going home... The route home is easier as I make a right turn instead of left turn and I can wait until there's a break in traffic before I head onto Mayfair Road.
#bikeTooter #mke #milwaukee

This is the shortest route to work I've biked yet... It's not ideal as I need to go about a half block on Mayfair Road, then turn left onto Hampton and get into the bike lane on the right side, but good to know I have this route if I need it.

I've compiled a bunch of short video clips from my bike rides (mostly my commute to work) and now you can see what I see!

15mph speed limit for bikes on the Oak Leaf Trail. (Don't worry, they won't enforce it.)
"Bike Fed Assistant Director Jake Newborn spoke at the committee meeting and acknowledged that there are reckless or dangerous riders on the trail – and that this reflects poorly on all of us as cyclists and trail users. But, that bad behavior isn’t limited to cyclists..."

FUCK ULINE! And I guess Fuck the Bucks now?
#mke #milwaukee #FuckULINE

The new City of Milwaukee budget is out... and if you need a reminder, the State Legislature (controlled by the GOP) has fucked over Milwaukee for years because they are racist and hate people who live in large cities, most of whom lean left.
#mke #milwaukee

It's going to be a few years before a protected bike lane gets added to Burleigh and I hate riding on it first thing in the morning on the way to work but...
I realized today that if these two cemetery gates are open (yellow) then I can ride through the cemetery (red) to get to the bike lane on Lisbon instead of Burleigh (blue), which is much better.

A library as a music venue? Yeah, why not!?
"Libraries are usually considered a silent 'third space' in the community. But recently the Central Library in Milwaukee doubled as a concert venue. The event, dubbed 'The Library Show' brought hundreds out to celebrate music and to encourage people to sign up for a library card. As they waited to enter, a line of more than 200 people stretched out the doors..."

Yesterday on the ride to work (at 8:15am) I stopped to take a photo of this crash debris and submit it to the city via their mobile app.
I just got the update that it's been cleaned up.
I took about a minute out of my day to do something that benefits everyone using this road.
I know it's cool to shit on (city) government but this is how things should work.
