It's going to be a few years before a protected bike lane gets added to Burleigh and I hate riding on it first thing in the morning on the way to work but...
I realized today that if these two cemetery gates are open (yellow) then I can ride through the cemetery (red) to get to the bike lane on Lisbon instead of Burleigh (blue), which is much better.

I took a (relaxing) bike ride this morning and saw half a dozen baby turtles in the cemetery, then just rambled around town aimlessly, and eventually made it back home after 15 miles.

The red lines are my two options to get from one yellow dot to the other on my commute to work. Ideally a protected bike lane along the blue line would be ideal.
Who knows? Maybe it'll happen in the next 20 years.
(I really wish I could cut through the cemetery but Pinelawn doesn't have multiple entrances/exits like Holy Cross does.)

The award will cover the cost of building bike lanes on N. Holton and W. Burleigh streets, extending the Powerline Trail at two different points, improving pedestrian safety along N. Teutonia Avenue and upgrading the city’s traffic signal infrastructure to reduce congestion."

This is great news! I’ve been using the new protected bike lane on Lisbon Avenue but it’s difficult to get to the start of it without taking the lane on Burleigh with fast vehicular traffic on your tail.
"W. Burleigh Street would also gain a protected bike lane. The Burleigh Street bike lane would run along the street as it passes Holy Cross Cemetery and Lincoln Memorial Cemetery between N. 60th and N. 72nd streets."

Yesterday's route where I almost got it right going home... The route home is easier as I make a right turn instead of left turn and I can wait until there's a break in traffic before I head onto Mayfair Road.

This is the shortest route to work I've biked yet... It's not ideal as I need to go about a half block on Mayfair Road, then turn left onto Hampton and get into the bike lane on the right side, but good to know I have this route if I need it.

Yesterday on the ride to work (at 8:15am) I stopped to take a photo of this crash debris and submit it to the city via their mobile app.
I just got the update that it's been cleaned up.
I took about a minute out of my day to do something that benefits everyone using this road.
I know it's cool to shit on (city) government but this is how things should work.
