Instead of an "AI kill switch" like they promised, #Mozilla will provide "AI controls" buried deep in settings a #Firefox update which isn't out yet, until then the AI features which are already released and on by default can only be disabled by digging through about:co…

Wait, the for-profit not-for-profit privacy champion funded by half-a-billion dollars a year from Google is doing this? I’m sure there are some benefits of the doubt we could still dust off and send their way.

So, instead of having to open two instances of Firefox and awkwardly arranging them side by side I can just open two pages in the same tab.
I don't know how long it has been since Firefox has made me this happy. The turning off AI button was progress but it was a problem they themselves had created.

Unpopular opinion (maybe): Everyone is shitting on #Mozilla for stuffing #AI into #Firefox. And I largely agree. But I would actually like to see _more_ AI in

*click* Until Firefox devs screw something up that's absolutely no AI functionality for me, thanks.
Oh, it's in its own new section of the settings, "AI Controls".

The popup that you now get in Firefox 148 if you "Block AI Enhancements", explaining what you'll be blocking:

Translations, Image alt text in Firefox PDF viewer, tab group suggestions, key points in link previews, chatbot providers in sidebar.
