The problem with downhill skiing, not usually mentioned by the commentators, is the "bib bias". The best athletes get a random bib from 5-15, which is the sweet spot: surface snow has been scraped, but not broken up, and prior runners have set a line and given critical information about where the bumps are to team mates. So your chance of winning if you are not top 10 is significantly lower. Which seems a bit unfair.

I always get a bit emotional during the national anthems at the #Olympics opening/closing ceremonies because I know my country is light years away of organising something like that for the world.

This past weekend we were in Toronto celebrating our granddaughter's 10th birthday (they grow up so fast...) and while consuming homemade cake we were discussing the recently completed #Olympics. The controversy in the #Curling competition came up and my son-in-law mentioned it was like another Broomgate.
I had forgotten about Broomgate which is understandable because I've watched about 8 minutes of curling in my 6 decades on the planet. Broomgate was a technological leap in the sport of curling that came to the attention of non-curlers, 99.9% of the world's population, during the 2015–16 season. New brush head technologies from a new company caused an uproar as sweepers gained far more control over a sliding chunk of granite. Traditionalists cried foul, or whatever they yell after tossing their stones. It resulted in a World Curling Federation summit to regulate and standardize brushes in the sport.

Good Morning #Canada
Back in January my daughter and I set a date to watch the #TorontoSceptres in mid March. It's a good thing we bought tickets early because interest in the Professional Women's Hockey League is surging after the #Olympics. Most of the remaining games in Canada are now sold out, merchandise sales were up over 100% in February, and the league has 5 times the web traffic versus 2025. League management is being cautious but expansion to Europe is now being discussed.
Growing up my daughters were competitive softball players and a lot of their friends played hockey or soccer. At an early age they thought it was bullshit that there were no career options for exceptional women players. Fast forward 20 years and we can now sit in the stands and enjoy professional women's basketball, soccer and hockey. It's not equal to men's sport in pay or prestige yet, but we'll enjoy the progress and cheer for more.
