Okay, I get matching phase and frequency before grid connect. Synchroscope makes sense
They were messing with the amount of water let in to speed up and slow down the turbine,
But once it goes grid connect, they open the throttle wide open (I guess to push more watts?) And... It holds phase? How's that work?
Where is the exciter routed before grid connect? Straight back to itself? Straight to ground? Disconnected terminals?
What force resists speeding up beforehand? Just friction?
What force resists going out of phase afterwards? Why can you suddenly dump as much water as you like in the wicket gates?
What's the autopilot adjusting or following at that point? Solar inverters are grid following, what about hydro governors?
What makes it force disconnect during shutdown? A loss of watts? A loss of phase? A loss of frequency?
