Shockingly, the pretext was BS. As always.
Trump has a plan for the midterms, and ICE is a big part of it. He wants violence on our streets this year, because he thinks it will give him a pretext to attempt to “cancel” the election. So he’s pulled all guardrails off his masked thugs and given them the green light to be as abusive and cruel as possible, in the hopes that they’ll incite the American people to violence. That’s Trump’s plan.

I live in California.
California was extorted from Mexico by the so-called "Mexican War" or 1846.
President, US Grant - yes that Grant from the Civil War - said that the 1846 Mexican War was the most unjust war he had ever seen. And Grant was right, it was a pretext war to take land from Mexico.
So I am wondering when Mexico will do a snatch and grab on El Cheato and take over the running of California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and parts of Nevada and Utah.
I keep coming back to what Kevin Kruse said here: the Trump regime is trying to get an ICE officer killed. That’s the pretext they desperately want.

Trump’s recent claims that the US should keep Venezuelan oil from seized tankers
are part of a broader belief in rightwing “resource imperialism”, experts say.
In recent weeks, the Trump administration has escalated pressure on Venezuela, invoking drug-trafficking claims.
This month, the US intercepted two tankers carrying Venezuelan oil and began pursuing a third,
while intensifying its campaign against the country’s president, Nicolšs Maduro.

Critics have compared the offensive to the Iraq war, citing a familiar mix of regime-change rhetoric, security pretexts and oil interests. This month, the Trump administration labeled fentanyl – which it says flows from Venezuela – a “weapon of mass destruction”.
On Monday, Trump suggested oil seized from Venezuela could be treated as a US asset. “Maybe we will sell it, maybe we will keep it... Maybe we’ll use it in the strategic reserves. We’re keeping the ships also.”
