Doing editorial work: Submission from unknown authors comes in. They are from non-english speaking country, small university (I had never heard of before). Paper is in flawless English, slightly out of scope of the journal but otherwise it seems to do something. References exist, but having worked with coding agents I clearly see how this is made.
What to do? Desk reject on "AI smell" ?
Send to referee and thereby spam the referee?
