Looking at Sun3 psu parts again, it seems to me that they were designed in negative - this little daughtercard makes it pretty obvious - they've not laid down tracks - they've down the gaps and ended up with sets of lands. The whole board is only a few cm across, so I don't think anything here is taking significant power.

The interesting bit is there's no thin tracks, there's thin breaks between areas.
