Should I be surprised that once the wheelchair ramp was extended off the train, everyone walked around it instead of just walking through it? Unfortunately, I didn't look back to see if they started using it after I demonstrated you can walk on it.

Canadians who are interested in passenger rail should take a look at what is happening in Mexico right now. They have a National Railway Plan to build 3400km of passenger rail track alongside existing private freight.
CPKC (the merged Canadian Pacific, Kansas City Southern railway) is front and centre.
"CPKC is actively collaborating with the Mexican government to support implementation specifically for the Mexico City – Queretaro and the Saltillo – Nuevo Laredo segments,” the Class I told Vantuono. “CPKC is making steady progress, actively and closely working with Mexican authorities on technical review of project segments. That includes providing detailed assessments and alternatives to facilitate decision-making, and mutual agreements. We are working toward clear agreements that minimize shared infrastructure usage between passenger and freight services. Where interactions are unavoidable, CPKC has proposed infrastructure solutions and operational adjustments, ensuring that the impacts on freight operations and growth remains minimal.””

Me: I've forgotten to take my croissant, but it's okay, I'm not that hungry today.
The railroads: "Accident with a car […]. Train traffic suspended."
Good that I've checked early. Today I'm going to take the scenic Piła — Krzyż — Poznań route.

I've just noticed that my railway pass no longer carries an explicit "valid (…) in any class" annotation. It still has an "X" in the "class" field, but that's not that cool.
(Explanation: many years ago, there used to be a few "RegioExpress" trains with first class seats. Of course, barely anybody cared about that, and I doubt people actually bought first class tickets. Alas, these are long gone.)

At this point, I would like to thank the Polish Ministry of Infrastructure and PKP PLK company for repeatedly delaying the electrification of railway line 203 on the Krzyż — Piła segment. As a result of this kind of good maintenance, during today's closing of the traffic on line 354 near Budzyń, PKP InterCity trains (with electric locomotives) needed to take a (longer) detour through Bydgoszcz, and therefore they did not cause any delays on lines 203 and 351. Thanks to that, I was able to easily catch my 10-minute change, and the whole ordeal only cost me 30 minutes total.

Just heard a story about a lady driving from Sosnowiec to Katowice in order to t take a seat on the train later. Except that it was a sleeper train and she had a seat reservation anyway. 🤦♂️

Here's the new version of "passenger's portal", the timetable app of Polish railways, with even more battery friendly dark mode.

Lately I've started being mischievous towards normals who have the perceptiveness of an average smartphone user.
When I'm in an Elf II from Koleje Wielkopolskie and I happen to be the first person at the doors, I push the door opening button early. Then I just stand there and wait for the doors to open, while people behind me start panicking that nobody's pushing the button.
Of course it's highlighted as already pressed the whole time.

Spousal conflit of interest issues aside for a moment... I may actually vomit if Danielle Smith's Alberta government introduces a “15-year master plan for introducing passenger trains across the province.“ when I have been advocating for this in BC for decades to absolute crickets (if not active denial) from all political parties in power.

This is the #Garbce stop on railway line 271 (Poznań — Wrocław), renovated a few years ago.
The platforms end a dozen metres from the railway crossing. However, there is no walkway from the platforms to the crossing; probably because it would need to cross a tiny stream. Instead, a 100 m long walkways have been added to the other end of the platforms, with a tunnel joining the platforms and access to a side road in the town. To reach the railway crossing, you have to walk 700 m.
Ironically, even in the general drought the tunnel manages to feature puddles of ground water. Also including the photo of a platform roofing with weird orange marks.

Today thanks to a defect of another train combined with complete incompetence of Polish railway traffic controllers, I've spend almost 3 hours in a train, stopped halfway between Złotniki Grzybowe and #Poznań Strzeszyn train stops (1.5 km from either). I would lose perhaps half of this time if they instead stopped us at the previous stop, and told us what's up, so we could just go catch the urban bus. But that's not my biggest problem.
These 3 lost hours means I'm behind with work. So I'm hurrying to catch up. Except I'm so completely messed up because of all this, I can't really focus on work, so I had to stop. So I'm going to be even more behind.

Hey Vancouver Island folks... thinking back to when the E&N railway court decision was made that had the Sna-naw-as First Nation take back the land after the Provincial and Federal governments did not commit to restoring rail service:
.... do you remember any reporting at the time that indicated whether the province or federal governments were in discussions on the issue?
Inquiring minds....

Did it turn out that the railway pass bought in KD ticket office doesn't work with the barcode scanners used in KW? Perhaps.
Did I immediately start scanning and analyzing the barcodes? Of course.
Well, KD tickets have two codes: a QR code with binary mash encoded in base64 (unnecessarily), which unfortunately I don't have time to analyze, and a code128 barcode with the ticket series and number, encoded as:
AA000000000 (0)
On the other hand, KW/PR have only code128 with the series and number, but without the digit in parentheses (perhaps a checksum?), even though it is printed on the pass:
AA000000000

Talking to carbrains always be like:
"Train tickets are more expensive than driving a car."
"Because you aren't counting the costs of buying and maintaining a car."
"But everyone has to have a car!"
So from now on, I arbitrarily decree that everyone, obligatorily and without exceptions, has to have an unlimited railway pass. Therefore, traveling by train is free and driving a car is infinitely many times more expensive. Thank you for your attention.

Me: I need to finally start reading #SkyScraperCity to know what's happening to the railway lines.

Take the right seat on the train, and you have two jobs already:
1. Telling people that the toilet is occupied, because the lock isn't reliable.
2. Telling people that exterior doors are broken, because they don't see the warning pasted on the door.

I am willing to be pleasantly surprised, but... when all I see from these "major projects" is oil and gas and other 20th century backwards nonsense, I can't help but be pessimistic.
Ironically, a real "nation building" project that would be a huge benefit to Canadians would be more akin to something from the 19th century: Standing up a true public railway corporation and rebuilding a high speed electrified rail network from sea to sea to sea that could reduce transportation costs and increase flexibility and convenience for millions of Canadians and businesses including in remote communities.
But our current leadership is too beholden to existing capitalist interests and status quo business to be that bold. And they're positively allergic to anything done purely in the public interest. How dare we not include some profiteering private corporation… /sarc

Tell me, car lovers, in case of electric traction failure, how long will your car continue rolling on an even road? Because our trains can easily (and with reasonable velocity) roll to the next stop.

Friday: I was near Wałcz. There was an accident involving a "road vehicle" in the vicinity of Budzyń. I needed to take a detour home.
Sunday: I was going to Świebodzice. In Wrocław, there was an accident involving a human. I had to go on foot from Mikołajów to the main station, and change my destination.
Tuesday: I was going to go in the direction of Wałcz. The train is canceled due to a fault. I'm changing the destination…
I'm starting to see a pattern…

A while ago the media reported that most of the long-distance "suburban" trains between #Wrocław and #Poznań will be discontinued, and instead one will have to change trains midway. Irrespective of whether it's actually going to happen, let's consider it.
As you can probably tell by now, I'm not a stranger to changing trains. In fact, there are some direct connections that I do criticize. For example:
• Poznań — Szczecin — Świnoujście, where arriving at Szczecin Główny and turning back to leave the city is a waste of time. It's better to change trains at Szczecin Dąbie.
• Poznań — Krzyż — Kostrzyn, where instead of using a single railbus, you can use a larger EMU for the Poznań — Krzyż segment, and a smaller DMU for Krzyż — Kostrzyn (in fact, only recently the "direct" Poznań — Kostrzyn train involved just that, but it was supposed to be temporary).
However, good matches are the key. Say:
1. Max 10 minutes (when there are no delays) from one train to the other.
2. "Door-to-door" transfer — without having to carry all your luggage across platforms.
3. Reliable connection — if one train is delayed, the other train waits for it (or there are so many alternatives that it doesn't have to).
Can such a thing happen on Poznań — Wrocław route? I have my doubts.
I've been using these trains for years, and I can say this: there is no effort to match train from/to Poznań with other trains in Wrocław. Sometimes the trains depart 10 minutes before the first train from Poznań arrives, sometimes I need to transfer in 10 minutes, and sometimes I have to wait over an hour. And the same in the other direction.
Perhaps things would actually improve if the route is split. Perhaps people would actually care. Maybe even the trains would be fitted better to the timetable in Wrocław. But I find it hard to believe.
EDIT: One final thought — since there is no real reason to split these connections (except for profiteering), why make travellers' lives harder?
