Old railroad signal near the Tioga Transportation Museum south of Newark Valley, NY
#photo #photography #railway #abstract

A railroad signalling device is sharply focused under a featureless grey sky, a pole rises up from the bottom center with something that looks like a ladder along it that seems to be too thin for that purpose. The signal has two blades, we seem to be seeing the black back side of one that is behind and nearly horizontal, the one in front is angled slightly down and looks reddish-purple with a white stripe painted near it's end, the blades have colored red and blue lenses attached to their …

Just had a 45-minute session of picking blackberries in my garden, during which 7 passenger trains passed by on the Bethnal Green and Kings Lynn line. That seems like a remarkable frequency of services for a Sunday, I wonder if there's something unusual happening. #railway

#DearFedi, does anyone happen to know a website or an app that I could use to easily highlight (as in using color) selected parts of the #railway network (ideally by choosing two stations to get everything in between highlighted), so I could mark which parts of the network I've already traversed, and then share it with you? (needs to include Polish railways)

Canadians who are interested in passenger rail should take a look at what is happening in Mexico right now. They have a National Railway Plan to build 3400km of passenger rail track alongside existing private freight.
CPKC (the merged Canadian Pacific, Kansas City Southern railway) is front and centre.
"CPKC is actively collaborating with the Mexican government to support implementation specifically for the Mexico City – Queretaro and the Saltillo – Nuevo Laredo segments,” the Class I told Vantuono. “CPKC is making steady progress, actively and closely working with Mexican authorities on technical review of project segments. That includes providing detailed assessments and alternatives to facilitate decision-making, and mutual agreements. We are working toward clear agreements that minimize shared infrastructure usage between passenger and freight services. Where interactions are unavoidable, CPKC has proposed infrastructure solutions and operational adjustments, ensuring that the impacts on freight operations and growth remains minimal.””
