My adventures for the afternoon: building a PS/2 mouse bracket for a retro motherboard (FIC PA-2007).

The Commodore 64 Ultimate is really a masterclass in how to make a new #retrocomputing product the right way.
While I don't have one, I really appreciate the attention to details and the way they're marketing it.
Also astounding that there were so many naysayers (I unfollowed or blocked so many retrocomputing people who were outright hostile to it). ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So I look through my pile of 8" floppies for @… thinking I'll have a few random ones to send him, and I find a motherload of Perq floppies!

A letter from Royal Signals and Radar Establishment, dated 1990 to go with a 'R5 Perq2 Boot Floppy for POS'
A pile of 8" floppies, some have ICL labels, some have PERQ systems labels, and include a Perq boot floppy, Perq installation tests, GKS and UKC tools for Perq.

Is there anyone in #brazil who would help me by purchasing some (small/lightweight) #retrocomputing items available domestically from mercadolivre and ship them to me in Germany? #followerpower

30 years ago... wouldn't it be nostalgic to play Commodore 64 games on your PC, asks this German article from PC Player 12/1995.

Hi #retrocomputing #retro peoples, I've got an HP D510C/845G machine, part number 268899-999 that needs a CPU- everything else is in the machine except for the CPU. What should I get (including fans, and paste recommendations)?

I was #retrocomputing on modern hardware today. I bought some Jaz drives for moving files to retro machines. I could never get them working on the retro machines. Turns out two out of three drives were no good. So, that explains that frustration.....

A Jaz drive with disk sticking out and the case standing up on top. it is sitting on top of my modern Windows 11 machine.

Who's ready to clean some floppy drive heads? Not really the way I planned to spend my day off but things are reaching dire straights for available floppy drives. Starting to hold up other projects.
#retrocomputing

four floppy drives sit on a wooden table top. all four have the tops off and the drive heads are visible. the two 5.25 drives are on the right and the two 3.5 drives are on the left. the middle two drives are actually a combo drive 3.5+5.25 but I'm counting them as separate drives since I have to clean both. behind the drives are a small round container with a clear liquid (99% IPA) and some q-tips.

Does anyone have a restore CD for a Toshiba Satellite Pro 425? (might be the same as for the 420).
Yes, I know that archive.org exists. There’s various restore CDs there but I couldn’t find one for the 420/425 series.
(If you have one and can’t image it, I can do it for you and archive it.)

Well, I had the dip switches set incorrectly and it was trying to test memory that didn't exist. Fixed that and the floppy drives seem to work as well...
I'm also impressed that the Dell System 200 DOS 3.3 Master disk (circa 1987) is still working.

It's alive!
The IBM 5150 (AKA IBM PC) just needed two caps on the 12V line replaced. The monitor had some plastic rattling around in the case. Both of those were pretty easy to solve.

I hate trying to work with OS/2. I'm told this worked on IBM systems, but it's a pain in the ass on anything else. Right now, it can see the drive, crate partitions, but not volumes. And it needs volumes to install.
I'm at the point where I be happy if it nuked my two windows installs (because I can put those back) if it would just install itself....
