"My view of professional software engineering is one where I get to find out about people’s work and the problems they have, and try to solve them, and discussions are key to this project. If what I wanted to do were to have some uninterrupted time to discover how to shovel a Haskell into a BEAM on Kubernetes so I could scalable actor lambda, then yes, I could understand why understanding what the deliverables are would get in the way."
True story time, from about 8 years ago.
After work, I joined few co-workers for happy hour. I had 1 or 2 alcoholic drinks, then cut myself off and drank soda rest of the night, for many reasons including I wanted to be 100% sober to drive home.
One guy was rude, insisted I keep drinking, said I was ruining the fun.
Kids, be your own person. Be stubborn. Don't let someone pressure you into doing something you don't want to do. No means no.

@… thank you for noticing my zirk.us post.
At the time I did not have any receipts, I just blocked them for personal reasons...
If I get any future receipts I'll save them so I can show them...
Also I'm deleting that post since otherwise it may seem like I'm throwing baseless accusations at instances...
Years ago, I thought it was rather strange to store and provide an additional copy of a already published article. „Doppelt hält besser“ commented @… back then.
Well, he was right back then. But I still couldn't have imagined how important additional copies would become if data and publishers suddenly disappeared.

"Many professions can be recognized through dress codes. Doctors and nurses wear aprons. Police officers wear uniforms. Tennis players in Wimbledon must dress in white. Astronauts wear space suits. Dominatrices wear black latex catsuits. The Swiss Guard in the Vatican wears the same outfit since the 16th century. Soccer players have matching kits. Wolverine fights evil in yellow spandex. Software developers wear the t-shirts they got for free at the last conference."

I'm 37 years old and I finally finished a #JRPG game for the first time in my life ( #SeaOfStars ).
I like them a lot, but I often get bored of the grinding, or I have to leave it for some time and when I come back I don't remember what I was doing.
Why I managed to finish it this time? Because I had more important, stressing and boring things to do instead, and my brain demanded procrastination. #ADHD
I looked into buying a solar charged battery bank. This product category is completely dominated by no-name 3rd party sellers. 🚩
Charge time is key. No listing had even a rough estimate for solar charge time. 🚩
An example unit claims max solar power 1.13 w, with enough battery power to charge an iPhone 14 Pro twice. Working from that, you'd need ~25 hours of full sun to fully charge. I'd roughly estimate that means at least 3 days in summer. Not quite worthless, but close…
"In this particular case, it is not uncommon for software developers to not only ignore, but even dismiss the required understanding of design language and primitives. At the same time, designers often lack the knowledge required to understand the various constraints imposed by software and hardware platforms."

"It is no secret that the latest SARS outbreak has reshaped the world of work. Particularly in software engineering: where the work can be done anywhere with an internet connection so codes can be pasted from Stack Overflow, and the practitioners generally have a dislike of meetings. Your average software engineer would rather build the wrong thing for eight hours in a flow state, than have a 15-minute conversation in which they find out what direction they should go."
