Now this is really cool!
Not just the 3d effects (actually 4d as the #drones are moving) but also the #technology with drones recharging on the fly.

Most #tech these days promises to help us get things done faster. That premise is sending humanity off a cliff these days.
What does tech that helps us slow down look like instead?
Fascinating collection of firsthand experiences, gathered by Brian Merchant.
From a comment:
"I can’t help but notice that stories aren’t “I lost my job because AI is able to do it better”, they are “I lost my job because upper management is hype-pilling and thinks AGI is around the corner”. Which is a bad thing, but if we suppose for a moment that AGI is not around the corner, and AI is a bubble? Those jobs will be back with vengeance once technical debt catches up. ... when your codebase is now an AI-written mess without documentation and tests and diffused knowledge in heads of those who have written it, it will collapse sooner or later."

I ditched all my smart gadgets at home and replaced them with USB-C rechargeable lights. I don’t have any assistants, and I replaced my Kindle with a pocketbook.
Removing some technology from my home and daily life feels refreshing.

Why is everything on the cloud these days?
I’m kind of getting tired of every piece of professional and business software being a SaaS or cloud-based solution these days.
I have a good computer, it can run a lot of complex programs on it locally. I wish I had the option to do so.
Not everything needs to be synced 24/7. And I’d much rather have some tools include a cloud sync functionality that backs up changes with some kind of regular frequency for version control and cross-device access, but otherwise runs on my device.
These days, when I’m trying to go work somewhere without an internet connection or am traveling and have spotty data - I can’t access 90% of my work. Files don’t back up locally even when there’s a native desktop client app. Why?
It feels wasteful, sending so much data to the internet and back with constantly required online sync and web apps.
I feel nostalgic now, remembering the days of software that would require buying a license every couple of years, that would run on your device and could be accessed even from the top of a remote mountain if you wished, and that didn’t log you out every other week.

Hey, it’s Monday again. That means we are hosting Tech Pizza Monday again! Same place (Victory Cafe, 440 Bloor St. W.), same time (6 PM), same…actually, the menu changed recently, so the pizza is different than it has been in the past.
Word on the street is that there will definitely be a hardware demo. Cool, right?

Did Google Maps and Apple Maps search get worse in the past year?
I keep having a ridiculous amount of trouble locating places to eat or stores in #NYC lately unless I know the precise name of a place - even very similar keywords like “burger” for a place that’s called “Blue Collar Burger” - and it doesn’t come up.
Let alone searching for nearby open restaurants or something by category… most places just don’t come up and instead I see completely irrelevant businesses.
I feel like it’s deteriorated a lot since 2024 but I also might be misremembering how easy it used to be.
