We are barely 6 months into #TheAmericanFascist Presidency and we already find ourselves with fundamental rights in the American Constitution under direct threat and the power of the judiciary to enforce and check the power of the President being pulled back.
And Democratic Party members seem to be all talk and very very little action or leadership to counter this.
Are they waiting for the midterms to take back Congress?
At this pace, surely they see the risk that there may not BE midterms. Or that the results are negated, disputed or invalidated.
I can’t fathom how they are not removing themselves from Congress now in protest and calling for a general protest/strike of all freedom loving Americans to restore the constitution, force the Trump appointed fascist enabling judges to resign, and force Trump and his Administration to go.
July 4th is coming. Independence Day? Or not? Democracy or not?

I feel weird saying “Happy July 4” to my American friends, because I don’t think many Americans are very happy with where the country is headed. Independence Day? From what? Tyrannical Kings? Colonial masters?

You gotta fight it, friends. You have to stop what you are doing today and really think about how to force Trump and his backers to reverse course now, hopefully peacefully, but maybe not.

Today in “silly billboards in my community”. The first is by the very “truthful” (/s) people at LNGfacts.ca. Of course, the word "LNGfacts" does not appear anywhere in the dictionary because it's made up nonsense. Just like the "fact" that LNG “makes Canada stronger”... like we're going to win the war in Ukraine with our LNG or fend off #TheAmericanFascist. (Note: LNG is a tool of fascists not the other way around)
This billboard used to say “BC LNG WILL REDUCE GLOBAL EMISSIONS”... with a link to ‘bclnghelps.ca' but that was so clearly a lie that they were forced by the courts to remove it and delete their website, but I made a website instead in their honour called: bclngburns.ca
Back to today's billbboard though... The irony is if the Twitter Nazi splits the Republican Party in two to make a National Republican Party to counter #TheAmericanFascist Republicans “Big Beautiful Bill” then that could open up more room for the Democratic Socialists to make their own party split from the Democrats and all of a sudden the USA could have 4 viable parties. I hate this nonsense. With great respect and in kindness: Mr. City Councillor in Bellngham needs to put on his big boy pants and admit that yes it is political and yes it is about the 51st state rhetoric and all the scary border stuff from his federal government.
His choice not to admit that and speak against that, and worse, to act like it doesn’t exist, is a further insult and will not help to get BC/Canadians to resume visits.

$CAD1100 is a lot to spend on just a couple items, but I guess in the grand scheme of making a pond/pool that will completely transform our backyard, it's not crazy. This about equals the amount spent ($1200 iirc) to rent the digger last Labour Day weekend. The liner and underlay fabric was another $3000. So we're looking at about $5500 so far for the project as a whole. Still better (including for the ecosystem!) than your average $50,000 in-ground pool install. ;=D
I realized last night that I bought the wrong pumps (DCT vs DCP argh). One of those “oh that's cheaper than I thought it would be” moments... followed by... “oh crap.”
I'll send the previous pumps back immediately upon arrival.
It's ok though, these will be two 20,000L/h variable pumps. The entire pond/pool system should be no more than 23,000L. My biggest rookie mistake with the #pandemicpond in the front yard was too small a pump. I rectified that when I added the bog filters there.
So I'm overbuilding this time. I should be able to run them at low-speed/power for the same amount of flow. Which will be better for pump longevity and power over time.
Also got main piping for the system: 50ft of 2" flexible PVC (Schedule 40). This will move water from the intake bay (behind the tree) to the bog filter (in front of the tree) and connect to smaller diameter piping/valves/fittings for sprayers in the pool.
This should be the end of the big-ticket items. The rest will be a LOT of little stuff: electrical, piping, and a lot of rock. Probably another $1000-$1500 to go, all should be local, and some of it can be put off until next year if needed.
It took a few tries on the Bezos Site, but I managed to find a supplier within Canada to avoid tariffs on any of it because Tariff-flation is definitely a thing! (American .com store essentially doubled the cost!)
