Today's installment of "let's see how much the world can be inshittified":
I got in the car to go to the cattery to pick up Luther after our week away. And when I put the indicators on ... no sound. Lights flashed both internally and externally, but no little "tick tick" rhythm to accompany them.
Anyway after I got home I looked at the Volvo website, where this is an apparently known problem.
To be slightly fair, following their process and rebooting the car (twice!) fixed things. But how on earth can they ship car software where you randomly need to reboot to keep things working. Especially as having an audio warning for the turn signal is (I believe) a legal requirement in the UK.
