In New York social circles, he was known as the “Jewish James Bond”:
a refugee from Nazi Germany whose gratitude to his American hosts was such that he volunteered to join the US army and became the CIA’s first station chief in Berlin as a mere twentysomething,
filing early warnings about Soviet activity that have been credited with ringing in the cold war.
Like 007, Peter Sichel also appreciated a fine tipple, and after leaving the US foreign intelligence service it was h…

Downloaded the old James Bond films for this trip. Started with Dr. No, not realising it was the very first one. I also didn't realise there was a thread between all of them. From Russia With Love had the worst reputation of all of them, and yet was an awesome spy movie. Sean Connery is absolutely incredible for the combination of characteristics that make 007. (1/2)

Thank you for expressing the argument eloquently, succinctly, and without aggression.
I confess, I often tire of reading information that's repetitive. My feelings go way beyond ennui when predictability is coupled with writing that's selfish, sloppy, and divisive. This wrong style of writing has become a norm for some of the people are right to be concerned.
I'm amongst the countless people who are, quietly, deeply concerned about the impact on Earth's resourc…
I went out to the garage this evening, turned on the lights, and saw a bat flying in circles around the Land Rover.
This of course is now going to be in my origin story, of a very slow, noisy, super-hero who fights crime using a mixture of hope, iron oxide and the ability to easily find a good supply of after-market parts.
(The bat was ok. I turned off the lights, opened the roller door, and he sped off, no doubt in search of a lights-behind-the-grill Series 1)
David Cronenberg, master of body horror movies, was born today (March 15) in 1943 (during World War II!)
I saw his films 'Crash' and 'Naked Lunch' early, around the same time, in 1997 or 1998. Since then, I've seen many more of his- I just counted, I've seen 13 of his 23 films, and I've loved all of them. I'm a huge fan. My favorite was Shivers for a while. I'm not sure what it is now. Gotta see those final 10!
Happy birthday, David. We love …

Trump administration deepens quest to stamp out the events of Jan. 6
Trump’s effort to reframe what happened on Jan. 6 appears, in many ways, to be an attempt to shape public perceptions.
The details of what happened that day remain accessible and documented in an expansive universe of videos, accounts and court filings.
The day he was inaugurated last year, Trump pardoned most Jan. 6 defendants, some of whom are now seeking elected office.
The president also commu…
