An approximate history of my amateur phone photography:
1. Really poor photos. Unsavory interest in (low resolution) panoramas.
2. Photos get a little better. Sometimes they're HDRs (I suspect the camera app was set to "auto").
3. A new phone. Higher resolution and a gyroscope.
4. Switching to LineageOS, and therefore to #OpenCamera. HDR enabled unconditionally.
5. HDR does not always come great (compared to the stock Motorola app that doesn't work anymore). I enable saving component photos, so I could try getting a better quality combination using the PC. I never manage that.
6. I start experimenting with exposure correction (combined with HDR). Sometimes I do multiple photos with different "Eves" to choose the best one.
7. A new phone. Finally, given even the gyroscope was failing already.
8. I learn that Pixels have "HDR " that gets activated when you do standard mode photos. For a while I do both standard and HDR photos; also I compare the middle component image with the standard mode image. [opencamera.sourceforge.io/help]
9. Before I reach any final conclusions, I read "What is HDR, anyway?" I disable HDR entirely, instead I save standard mode (i.e. HDR ) raw images (which presumably aren't affected by HDR ) [lux.camera/what-is-hdr/]. Not that I ever managed to get anything good out of raws.
10. I discover that I can switch the lens. Today I've made my first photos, switching lens to get optical zoom 💪.

I grew up with a lot of male cousins who loved watching sports. I understand that some people enjoy gambling for emotions, but I don't.
That's why I like books. Instead of gambling for feelings, a book takes my emotions on a journey, rips them to shreds in the middle in an unpredictable way, then grinds my feelings into a fine paste that they feed to their goat, which is sacrificed in a bloody feral ceremony whose carnage further defiles said emotional residue
Or you can …

No, @…, emphasizing the safety of vaccines is not a strawman. For everlasting fuck’s sake.
Come back to planet Earth, where:
- scare-mongering about vaccines is running rampant,
- right-wing propaganda is intentionally fueling that fear for profiteering and political gain,
- parents are very clearly afraid of the vaccines themselves right now,
- diseases like measles are making a return because of that fear, and
- people are dying as a result.
Your post is a non-sequitur. Whatever stick you have up your butt about lockdowns or whatever this post was about, please keep that stick in your butt and out of vaccine safety discussions. mastodon.online/@dennmans/1156

We distinguish "personal unfairness",
-- the view that one’s own economic situation is unfair,
from "social unfairness",
-- the view that the economic situation of others in society is unfair.
Uncertainties associated with the transition to a globalized knowledge economy heighten people’s feelings of personal unfairness
Feelings of personal unfairness increase support for the "populist right"
and feelings about social unfairn…

In other news: I successfully ripped my CD collection and put them on a USB stick so I can finally use them in my car. I don't have that many yet, it was only about 20 discs.
There is a strange feeling of properness when you're listening to music that you physically own. Even more so if you know that the signal you're hearing was actually physically read off the disc in your room.
Buy used CDs guys. They're cheap. It's fun.

FWIW, when people go on about “sportsball”, to me that sounds snotty and condescending and, well, a bit rude: “I ostentatiously don’t care about a thing you do and wish it didn’t exist.”
Not saying you’re not within your rights to feel that and say that. I have exactly those feelings about certain forms of music and religion and politics.
Just be aware that sometimes it doesn’t land well.
