Tree planting can combat urban heat, but some neighborhoods are falling behind
Sydney communities may be missing out on crucial tree planting projects intended to combat urban heat, leaving western and eastern parts of Greater Sydney with less protection from extreme heat, a University of Sydney-led study has revealed. In a surprising finding, the researchers found that while Greater Sydney's total tree canopy increased by 4.2% from 1.514 billion square meters to 1.578 billion square meters between 2016 and 2022, this growth was not evenly distributed.

Doin' US taxes again. Super blah without a donut!!
Last year my personal filing was about 200 pages long. (We also do a separate corporate filing.)
And once again my taxes will far, far, far exceed the actual disposable income I have received.
Yes, this is an upper-middle-class, first world problem.. But I do hate paying what amounts to big wads of $$ to pay for El Cheato's destruction of the US.

The new emojis are out - at least the ones Apple includes in the next iOS update:

Another emoji originally was on the list for Unicode 17, then postponed to 18, and in October 25, it was removed from the draft. Probably because a certain company in the consortium took offense to it.

Following federal cuts to history-focused organizations, the president of the Canadian Historical Association, Colin Coates, sent this letter to Marc Miller, the Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture.
One thing might not be obvious: Coates's reference to Carney's recent Quebec City speech suggests Canadians' need for historical context right now. He doesn't agree with Carney's claims. In fact, most Canadian historians would dispute them.

#TIL about Benford's law where for some data sets of numbers, the first digit is usually 1 and rarely 9 (with descending probability in between). It's especially common in data sets following the power law (which is common in nature).
