I think, at this point of time, all fediverse software supports markdown, some even support LaTeX formatting. But, Mastodon still doesn't support any of that. I sadly observe that everyone around me posting per posts with bold, italics etc, while I can't.
Mastodon feels like the gnome of fediverse software.

The Federal Court of Justice ruled that German police may forcibly lay the suspect's finger onto their smartphone's fingerprint sensor to unlock it, if there's a search warrant intended to seize the phone and if the data access is proportionate.

A bit of context that might be needed for this story about a 2010 website, is that prior to 2011 https wasn't widely used outside of e-commerce. The release of Firesheep in October 2010 led to a push for site authentication to go over https, and the 2013 Snowden revelations shifted the web towards encrypt all transmission.
