WELL.
We have a newly installed @… version on an old #EndoOf10 laptop.
All user files have been moved across (will require some organisation still, and that alone will be a shock to a GenZ used to just dumping stuff on the cloud - honestly the desktop looked like my parents... 😱 ).
Most important programs are there (I had to explain difference between program and app along the way too).
And overall it's been a pretty positive learning experience for both of us. I have had to compromise on a few things and teenager has a few programs installed that I'd rather not - but let's see this as a gateway out of #BigTech if at all possible...
There will be a few more follow up points I suspect but thanks all for your friendly encouragement and helpful hints so far

Hoe weet je nou dat we er al zijn? vroeg ze nog. „Dat merk je vanzelf”, antwoordde de chauffeur. Floortje Dessing (55) was eerder op de Westelijke Jordaanoever geweest, maar dat was echt al een tijd geleden. En inderdaad: waar de Israëlische ‘superhighway’ overgaat in Palestijnse ‘wegen vol gaten en ellende’, weet je dat je in een andere wereld bent beland.
„Ik ben al in ongeveer 160 of 170 landen geweest”, zegt ze. „Maar wat je hier ziet, is met niks te vergelijken. Aan de ene kant is er het Midden-Oosten zoals je dat kent, met zijn gastvrijheid, een kopje koffie en een tafel vol hapjes. En tegelijkertijd is het één groot drama.”

A software update rolling out to Samsung’s Family Hub refrigerators in the US is putting ads on the fridges for the first time. The “promotions and curated advertisements” are coming despite Samsung insisting to The Verge in April that it had “no plans” to do so. Samsung is calling it a pilot program for now, which — I kid you not — is meant to “strengthen the value” of owning a Samsung smart fridge.
