ok, so, you know how the standards (C/POSIX) allow malloc(0) to return NULL?
i went to refresh my memory after a discussion of a security issue today and as best as i can tell, no commonly used OS has ever had malloc(0) return NULL, including historical ones¹. windows, glibc, musl, BSDs, all return a non-NULL pointer to some object

Just picked up this #Salter Improved Family Scale to gift a friend who's getting married and is into old-fashioned stuff and British stuff.
But, it doesn't quite sit at 0. Does anyone have any experience on how to tare a machine like this? There's no knob as far as I can see. The plate on top also doesn't seem like it can be removed without force.

Kumulativer Zubau der Windenergieleistung in Deutschland mit Stand vom 23.08.2025. Liniendiagramm von 1989 bis 2025, x-Achse Jahre, y-Achse kumulierte Bruttoleistung in MW. Die Kurve startet bei null, erreicht um 1998 knapp 1.000 MW, etwa 20.000 MW im Jahr 2009, steigt bis 2014 auf rund 32.000 MW und beschleunigt dann stark auf etwa 55.000 MW 2016. Der aktuelle Wert liegt bei 75211,83 Megawatt.
