Ankle socks made using the sock tube method - really surprised/delighted at the pattern this yarn made. I made a long tube on my CSM then divided the tube into six shorter tubes. The ankle/cuff/heel are made out of a silk yarn I found at the makerspace. Feels really lovely. Four more socks to go. #csmknitting

That Void musl install was so good and quick that'll patiently wait a couple of days for a minor Cosmic issue (has to do with the custom Void repo, not with Cosmic itself) to be resolved. Can you imagine? Neither could I 😜

One neat thing in Malta is that the Maltese language is everywhere: signs, ATM screens, casual local conversation. Europe's only indigenous Semitic language, a vernacular Arabic from when Sicily was Muslim.
Malta is rapidly globalizing now thanks to being the center of "innovative" businesses in Europe (gambling, cryptocurrencies, etc). I wonder if it will maintain its language in another two generations. Everyone already speaks English too.

I appreciate the ubiquitous European cafe where you can sit outside and have a drink and snack and it is no fuss, just practical and comfortable. I wish we had this in the US.

The Grandmaster's Palace is a bit of a mixed bag. But it's interesting for the extraordinary wealth the Hospitallers commanded for much of their rule.

Malta has this unique history of a megalithic culture from around 3000 BC that built enormous temples, some of the oldest freestanding buildings in Europe and without precedent on the mainland.

Now we are in Malta for two days. It's a really weird and interesting country, particularly the period the Order of St John ran things 16th-18th century as a sort of religious / corporatist fiefdom. It's also beautiful with honey-colored limestone and everything so Baroque and tidy.

Spending, but saving at the same time. Got a new Xteink X4, set me back a little under 45 Euro 💶

Leaving Malta

There was this one nagging application, Filen (encrypted cloud in Germany), that I need for work and couldn't get to run on either Chimera and Casuarina. Needed it this morning. Already have the rpm (and some) to use with Slackware. Grabbed Tumbleweed and did a custom install. Need to turn that into a blogpost. Super lean, before we get that Agama atrocity.
Systemd-boot, secure boot, LUKS. No flatpaks 😜 Extension-manager in the repos. And great theming.

After 2 hours I got Borderlands 4 playing from my Linux box to my TV. Mostly. I still haven't tried to make HDR work and there's lots of little stutters. But at least the sound isn't delayed 2 seconds anymore.
Linux gaming mostly works but there's still rough edges.

Wednesday's updates have landed, including the latest Librewolf 152.0.2-1, published just 6 hours ago. Gotta love that sync!

It would be nice if Fedora stopped that nonsense of including their own flatpak repo. Out of codecs etc I see why Flathub can't be included, but adding your own is just confusing for new users, or disappointing since they can't find the software they want.

That hybrid approach applied. Chimera Linux takes care of a great base, including KDE. I use verified Flatpaks for all major things (librewolf, vlc etc). Distrobox for that one akward application I need. Setup of that on Chimera is as painless as it can be. I do the same on Slackware, although I make some essential pkgs myself also. So, trusted base, containerized applications. No AUR here. Anymore 🤣

It's a me thing. There is sth in the (hardly existent) combo of Gnome and ricing that invariably leads to rage explosions. Terminals have no opacity, color schemes need git clones. Extensions, a hot mess that needs to be searched manually, if they work or not anymore. Worse than the AUR. Distros providing that DE suffer. I clearly need to separate both, the message and the messenger. Doesn't work yet 😆
