Trying to figure out why Gemini AI in Gmail is so very bad. It seems to not have access to all of my email and whatever RAG-like thing they are doing is very stupid.
Here's Gemini saying my oldest email matching some keywords in 2021 is from March 2021. If I explicitly tell it to look in February 2021, it finds it. There's only 11 emails that match in all of 2021, it's not like I'm blowing up the context window.

But both domestic genocides and purges as well as political violence targeted at individual prominent figures has been a *constant* throughout American history, from gun duels fought between political rivals to massacres of Native Americans in order to steal their land, to pogroms against Catholics, to literal wars on local Black success and political participation, all dating back before the American Revolution to the beginning of colonization. Two detector modules with lithium aluminate targets were operated in the CRESST underground setup between February and June 2021. The data collected in this period was used to set the currently strongest cross-section upper limits on the spin-dependent interaction of dark matter (DM) with protons and neutrons for the mass region between 0.25 and 1.5 GeV/c$^2$. There is a little known reporting tool on the ##StatsCan website called Canada’s Quality of Life Hub. First proposed in 2021, and launched in 2023, it is a framework that gathers data and evidence to inform priority setting and guide decision-making in various policy areas, including the budgetary process. The Framework comprises five domains –prosperity, health, environment, society, and good governance – and two cross-cutting lenses: fairness and inclusion, and sustainability and resilience. Not enough Canadians have heard of it, and I suspect very few government policies are implemented before analyzing the impact on quality of life measurement by this tool. On a positive note, #StatsCan is looking for feedback on how to improve the hub.
