Several years ago, a street medic described a system like this and wanted to know if it could be built.
https://hackaday.com/2022/09/08/the-tak-ecosystem-military-coordination-goes-open-source/
Back then there was just no way to make it happen. Hardware was too expensive. We couldn't really ever get it cheap enough, per medic, to deploy. Best I could put together was a bunch of burner phones.
But now it's starting to really make sense. LoRa is cheap, and possibly cheaper in bulk. And it wouldn't be necessary to build everything since ATAK-CIV exists and has several open source implementations. It can even tie in to drones (which are illegal to bring to protests in at least a few states).
This has a lot of potential applications for street medic coordination, protest marshal coordination, and for airsoft teams...

The Italian tech holding company Bending Spoons, has developed a reputation for buying tech companies past their peak and aggressively cutting costs.
The firm acquired Evernote in 2022, followed by Meetup and WeTransfer in 2024, and AOL and Eventbrite in 2025.
Layoffs followed many of those deals. In September 2024, just months after being acquired by Bending Spoons, WeTransfer laid off 75% of its staff.
Just months after Bending Spoons bought Vimeo for $1.38 billion last ye…

According to Mandiant's latest threat data, the median time between an initial access event and the hand-off to a secondary threat group dropped from more than 8 hours in 2022 to only 22 seconds in 2025.
Check out my latest CSO report for more insights on how attacker dwell time rose, voice phishing topped email phishing, and threat actors increasingly targeted backup and identity systems.

Today I have learnt about the deliriant history of the ultra-far right ex professor Enoch Burke.
The summary of the history is that while this guy was professor he refused to call by her new name a trans student, was finally fired, but keeps going to the school he was fired from in *2022*, and he has been arrested a number of times.
You can learn more about this case in this article from The Irish Times:

Good news for Dean Gillispie in Ohio. He was #wrongfullyconvicted of 3 1991 rapes & exonerated in 2017. He sued the township and won a $45 million verdict in 2022. The township has been fighting it ever since, and SCOTUS just denied its appeal.
After the Republican midterm disappointments of 2022,
Peter Thiel called for a party that could unite “the priest, the general, and the millionaire”
— a formula that reads, with hindsight, as a precise blueprint for Trump’s second administration:
Christian nationalism, military force deployed at home and abroad, and a financial oligarchy powerful enough to steer the state.
By the election of 2024, the gospel of nostalgia and the gospel of progress had concluded a shor…
