It is December, so it is time to share my #Warframe2024 report from last year before the 2025 one arrives, and yes, I play on Linux and have since 2023, running Warframe on Debian Trixie.

But - besides the environmental insanity and the theft - it's doubtful it will even work out economically. I doubt they can get a return on what they'd need to invest any more. They'll need to plunder more than oil.

Just updated our server's downtimes for 2025 and for all-time. Although datasci.social had a downtime of over 10 hours in 2025, our all-time uptime is still way above 99.9%. 🤓

I have no sympathy for Maduro or his regime, and would be happy for Venezuelans to replace it, but this looks very much like a takeover of a sovereign country for economic exploitation by force. And (yet another) terrible "might is right" precedent.

Unfortunately I don't expect much. Some calls for restraint. Maybe some polite condemnation. The more likely the further west but nothing with teeth.

We are not getting independent (of the US) foreign policies until we have taken charge of our security and of critical financial and technology infrastructure.

Yeah. It's even more sad for us living in the EU. We don't get to have a sovereign foreign policy until we have cut the dependency on the US for security, financial infra and tech platforms. Working discretely (and far too slowly) on it. Will it be better afterwards? Maybe, not sure.
