A hydrothermal explosion at Black Diamond in July 2024 sent rocks and mud flying hundreds of feet high and damaged a boardwalk used by visitors, prompting the closure of the area

I'm shocked, shocked, that waiving the transfer tax on downtown office to residential conversions did not result in a single such conversion happening.
Well, not that shocked. (The real point of March 2024 Prop C was the sneaky provision letting the SFBOS reduce the transfer tax altogether without an election. Not to produce housing but to cut downtown landlords' taxes.)

It's January 4th and I've already got a few orders this year for my little hobby business.
One from the UK, one from Ireland, and one from Switzerland.
Last year we shipped close to 80% of the orders to the US and almost 20% to the UK, with a few other countries besides those two.
I do feel like I'm seeing fewer US sales since the beginning of 2024, file that as you will.
Overall sales were down a bit in 2024 but I did a few larger projects for folks that …

One I somehow missed last year and may have even made my top 20 because of how damn good it is, NYC punks KALEIDOSCOPE and their LP 'Cities of Fear' that was written and recorded in just a few days in 2024. Some KILLER, catchy, rough, angry hardcore punk the way it SHOULD be. ffo MDC, Poison Idea, Crucifix.

Another year, another bunch of books.
I spend most of the year binging through thriller series that I had already had started in 2024.
The books I really liked were the newest book from the Slough House series, the spy novel The Persian, and Fundamentals of Software Architecture (even if I didn't finish it).

It’s the most since 2020 and a 44% increase from 2024.

Found an old power bill while cleaning up. In the end of 2018 I was paying 9.05 c/kWh for the first 600 kWh and 10.94 above.
Now it's 15.1 and 17.0.
The rate of increase was very much nonlinear though: from October 2018 to October 2024 (six years) the tier 1 rate only climbed by 27%.
It went up 10.5% in 2024 and 20.7% in 2025 alone.
