Today, we visited our lawyer to sign the documents for our sale of our current home (official closing June 20th) and for the purchase of our next house (close date June 23rd). Then, I came home and cut a half acre of lawn for the final time.
Approximately 42 hours until the movers arrive on the 19th , then they deliver on the 24th. The 4 days in between will be spent in my brother's bunkie at his cottage near our new house. So we have a bit of downtime to nap or explore.

The justification that Trump used to claim (illegally) federalize the California National Guard and deploy the marines is from 10 U.S. Code § 252:
> Whenever the President considers that unlawful obstructions, combinations, or assemblages, or rebellion against the authority of the United States, make it impracticable to enforce the laws of the United States in any State by the ordinary course of judicial proceedings, he may call into Federal service such of the militia of any State, and use such of the armed forces, as he considers necessary to enforce those laws or to suppress the rebellion.
Specifically he's called out the "make it impracticable to enforce the laws of the United States."
Trump cannot legally hold office because of his participation in an insurrection. Trump should have been impeached and removed on day 1 of his first administration based on the Emoluments clause. Trump colluded with Russia to manipulate the election, so even his swearing in was a failure of the US government to "enforce the laws of the United States." The supreme court justices he appointed explictly undermined and continue to "make it impracticable to enforce the laws of the United States," as with all of his appointees. The troops he has federalized remain deployed, even after being declared illegal.
When, then, do we call the entire time since January 20th, 2017 to now an insurrection and his government an illegal assembly? Who will order them to "disperse?"

Last year, we bought a collection of 17 Georgia paintings by 19th- and 20th-century artists, many of whom are lesser known. Even the ones who are better known, like #NellChoateJones, aren't exactly _well_ known. We're excited to start studying these works and learning about the Georgia scenes many of them show.

Nell Choate Jones' painting "Square at St. Mary's," a color scene that shows a Black family in a southern square, next to a big tree. They could be in front of a church. Most of them are wearing white.
Augusta Oelschig's painting of a young Black boy in a gold frame. She shows him at bust length, looking slightly to his left. He wears a pale blue shirt with an open collar.
A watercolor painting of Savannah by Hattie Saussy. Seen from a park it shows several four- or five-story brick buildings across the way, partially blocked by greenery. The image is soft and pastel, more abstract in the foreground and more precise in the background.

Oh, absolutely, I live in Norway, because apparently, people need proof before they believe anything these days. Next time you see me, I’ll be casually dropping the phrase “Norsk Syndikalistisk Forbund” in perfect Norwegian, just to remind you that I’m not a figment of your imagination but a real, live, radicalized-by-proxy Norwegian who reads obscure early 20th-century syndicalist newspapers in my spare time.
Don’t worry, I’ll also make sure to quote both Emma Goldman and Rudolf Rocke…

A person stands indoors, holding books that are partially covered by the Norwegian Syndicalist Federation logo. The background is plain, featuring a simple door. At the top of the image is the word "me," and at the bottom is the website "nsf-iaa.org." The individual wears a sweater, vest, and pants, and carries a bag.

The image is a sepia-toned portrait of an older man. He is wearing a dark suit with a white shirt and a dark tie. The man has a full, white beard and mustache, and his hair is curly and graying. He is wearing round, wire-rimmed glasses. The background is a plain, dark color, which contrasts with the subject's lighter hair and beard. I am willing to be pleasantly surprised, but... when all I see from these "major projects" is oil and gas and other 20th century backwards nonsense, I can't help but be pessimistic.
Ironically, a real "nation building" project that would be a huge benefit to Canadians would be more akin to something from the 19th century: Standing up a true public railway corporation and rebuilding a high speed electrified rail network from sea to sea to sea that could reduce transportation costs and increase flexibility and convenience for millions of Canadians and businesses including in remote communities.
But our current leadership is too beholden to existing capitalist interests and status quo business to be that bold. And they're positively allergic to anything done purely in the public interest. How dare we not include some profiteering private corporation… /sarc
