Yesterday, I wanted to quickly post something on my blog when I realized that my blog generating process was broken after upgrading to Debian 13.
So I had to analyze the situation, got lost in my complex shell script hell and decided to merge it into one single script without lots of dated stuff.
Next I realized that one of my own libs has a minor issue with Python 3 strings: had to migrate to raw strings to get rid of very valid warnings.
Well, I could not publish that lib…

Neil Young - "After The Gold Rush" (1970)
Somehow I went all these years without acquiring this record, until today. Apparently this lp was inspired by a Dean Stockwell script for a movie that never got produced.
#NowPlaying #NeilYoung

Album cover features a black and white photo of Neil Young wearing a back pack that's in the shape of a little old lady.
Neil's handwritten lyrics to After The Gold Rush:

Well, I dreamed I saw the knights in armor coming
Sayin' something about a queen
There were peasants singin' and drummers drumming
And the archer split the tree
There was a fanfare blowin' to the sun
That was floating on the breeze
Look at mother nature on the run in the nineteen seventies
Look at mother nature on the run in the nineteen seventies

I was lyin' in a burned-out basement
With a full moon in my eyes
I was hopin' for replacement

Six surgeons general: It’s our duty to warn the nation about RFK Jr.
Secretary Kennedy is entitled to his views.
But he is not entitled to put people’s health at risk.
He has rejected science,
misled the public
and compromised the health of Americans.
The nation deserves a health and human services secretary who is committed to scientific integrity

I'm really starting to love Typst! It's so much easier than LaTeX and it compiles instantly.
Writing stuff in it is so much faster compared to LaTeX that I've started using it for my homework exercises (which I don't have the patience for with LaTeX).
The scripting language is really nice and there are a lot of packages you can use. I'm using physica to get braket notation and quill to be able to draw quantum circuit diagrams for example. Yesterday, I used the…

Simply not compatible with their optimisation function
This loop explains well why commercial algorithms are incompatible with creativity.
"According to this employee, Spotify leadership didn’t see themselves as a music company, but as a time filler. The employee explained that, “the vast majority of music listeners, they’re not really interested in listening to music per se. They just need a soundtrack to a moment in their day.”
Simply providing a soundtrack to your d…

I love university libraries.
(Dear reader, I have a weakness for 70s prog from Québec, arguably the beating heart of the genre at the time. I don't know where else I'd find this LP.)

A white hand holding a white LP sleeve featuring a color pen and ink drawing. The band name - Maneige - is at the top in a funky script.
The back of the LP sleeve featuring a photo of the band, the names of the members, a brief description of the album (a long sentence in French featuring two(!) colons), and the track titles.

Here's a great use of AI text-to-speech generation: preparing for a live pitch.
Instead of reading your pitch a hundred times so you can edit it for time, use ElevenLabs.
1. Create an account
2. Find a voice that matches your own cadence
3. Paste your script and have it generate the pitch
You'll immediately see how long the audio file is and can adjust your script for length.
Then you can spend your time **rehearsing** instead of editing.

Ok, I’m procrastinating downloading a bunch of vids with yt-dlp and at this point I’m already reaching the tabs limit on this Safari profile
What’d be the best way of downloading a bunch of videos with yt-dlp while still keeping a good control of what failed and what succeeded? (this is basically impossible from its output if you feed it a bunch of links in a single go)
I was wanting a webui I could selfhost and it’d show progress and status for each video it’s downloading (and let me pass custom options to the yt-dlp command, such as filename), but should I just make a script with a for loop for each URL instead?

Spending time in #Udupi #India, I've to be extra disciplined to eat healthy because #food is plenty and plenty of food is #unhealthy (but tasty). My success requires the understanding of both hosts and the serving personnel, and most days they take very good care of me.
Today was especially moving because I was at a place and people new to me, but they heard understood my needs, gave me a prime spot where they could monitor what was being served to me, and they made sure I got plenty of whatever I wanted; and nothing I didn't.
It's amazing how many people it takes for just one person to live well, and how generous, tolerant, and welcoming Udupi people are. 🙇‍♂️

Maybe I'm in my own little info bubble but I find it hard to believe that 60% of Canadians would support a new pipeline from Alberta to the west coast. I was disappointed with Carney's negotiation/capitulation to Smith, and I think longterm it's a misstep by the Liberals. Indigenous People will fight it tooth and nail, and we should support them in that effort. B.C. doesn't want a new terminal on their coast. Demand for oil continues to drop and there's a real risk the pipeline is severely underused upon completion. Most of the money made from oil moving through this pipe will leave Canada. Canada's reputation is polluted with this announcement while the majority of countries continue to develop alternative energy solutions. I can understand the support from Alberta as the province doesn't appear to have a strategy for transitioning from an oil dependent economy. But who are the other Canadians that Angus Reid surveyed?
