I think the root of the “AI” evil is when AI researchers in the 1960s recognized that they outrageously underestimated the complexity of the human mind.
They became humiliated by their promises that AGI was just a few years away—and then went full goblin mode that’s lasting to this day.
Some of the OG researchers took it quite badly that they stalled and weren’t in the limelight anymore.
‣ Marvin Minsky (co-founder of MIT AI lab and arguably the most important early AI bro) went on to visit Epstein’s island multiple times.
‣ Karl Steinbuch, who came up with the German term for computer science ("Informatik")—who also was a literal Nazi (and likely war criminal) in World War II—later wrote articles in ultra-right magazines about things like “equal rights rob women of their children”.
‣ John McCarthy (inventor of Lisp, co-authored document that coined the term “Artificial Intelligence”) was a staunch Republican who years later claimed (in a serious article) that “thermostats have beliefs”.
[one moment, I am receiving more information]
‣ There’s a second Epstein Island AI pioneer? Who also was Chief Learning Officer at… Trump University? That would be Roger Schank (founded one of the first AI companies in the 1980s AI boom, it even had an IPO. Of course the 1980s AI bubble burst).
Obviously all of the above received all the awards in computer science and are very revered people.
Good Morning #Canada
Overnight news of Trump attacking another country in a blatant attempt to seize their resources should be a wakeup call for Canada. Does anyone here think a strike on Ottawa to remove the current government couldn't happen? Could the U.S. find a stooge willing to become the interim leader? How much oil, aluminum, uranium, hydropower or other resources would be looted before Trump strokes out from too many big macs. Yesterday I would have laughed at this scenario but today it starts to be less of a fantasy.
I glossed over this article when it was first published back in November but now I'm leaning towards support of developing a volunteer force in Canada. Perhaps a 2-year voluntary military service for our youth to provide employment and training. I don't want a volunteer military force to ever be used and hopefully it becomes a deterrent. But unfortunately a serious discussion is needed.

“Maduro is being transported to New York, where he will face charges in Manhattan federal court, according to people briefed on the matter. US Attorney General Pam Bondi says the Venezuelan leader has been indicted on drugs and weapons charges.
• Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez said”
…….
How does a judge accept a case like this!?
If this sham is allowed to go ahead I’ll lose so much respect for the American justice system. And in New York no less… how many blocks from the UN. What an embarrassment and total disrespect for the UN.

Venezuela’s mission to the U.N. has requested an emergency Security Council meeting
and has asked the Council to condemn the U.S. military strikes against the country.
Venezuela’s ambassador, Samuel Reinaldo Moncada Acosta, said in a letter to the Council’s president:
“The United States of America always uses lies to fabricate wars.
It is an international tyranny imposed with the propaganda of death:
the recent past confirms this.”

Taking notes from the successes and failures of the Russian revolution, a group of anarchists (including Nestor Makhno, a Ukrainian anarchist militant who was critical in defeating the Tzar's army and who later also fought the Red Army) wrote a document titled the "Organizational Platform of the Libertarian Communists." This document came to be known as "The Platform." It remains one of the most important first-hand revolutionary documents, outlining a clear revolutionary plan.
I've taken this, the Viable System Model from cybernetics, and my own organizing experience, to describe an organization to confront the current set of crises.
This continues to build on the stuff I have been writing, but it's a lot less high level theory and a lot more specific.

As always, editing notes (typos, grammar, spelling, etc) are always welcome, as are any questions. My ADHD brain tends to go a lot faster than anything else, so I have a tendency to drop words and have a lot of trouble catching them later. Between my ADHD and mild dyslexia, it can be pretty hard for me to catch when autocorrect gives me the wrong word.
A lot of folks have already been super helpful in offering their editing support, and I'm really grateful. Writing this has felt collaborative, and it should. On the one hand this comes from my own experience and research, but on the other I'm also voicing things that have come from conversations here. This has all been a bit of my voice and a bit of the federated world, and I'm really appreciating that.

Series B, Episode 05 - Pressure Point
AVON: Frankly, I don't see how you can do it without me. Your strongest enemies are going to be the defence computers. I am the only one qualified to tackle them.
BLAKE: Yes, that had occurred to me. You better start getting kitted up. Do you want to tell me why?

Finished prepping the NESessity NES mainboard for the new front loader mechanism. I got lazy when I installed all the components on the NESessity board and maybe didn't clean the flux off as well as I should have. However, since I've gotten open the NES up, figured I'd do a proper 99% isopropyl alcohol bath and a good scrub. The board is looking great, now to wait for the cartridge slot to come in and get it buttoned up again.
After Missouri residents voted to repeal their state’s near-total abortion ban
and enshrine abortion rights into their state constitution,
Conservative advocates quickly got to work.
In a lawsuit filed the day after the 2024 election,
abortion providers challenged not only the constitutionality of the state’s ban,
⚠️but also a slew of other restrictions that, they said,
made their jobs so arduous as to be impossible.
More than a year later, they are…

KLEGG: Very neat. I don't think I'd like you as a friend, Avon.
