Okay, removed the second MiSTer and made room for the OG Mega Drive/Genesis. Got it hooked up, found the right power adapter and SCART cable, and even cleaned it up a bit. Think I'm done futzing around with the shelf for the time being.

Two lighted shelves showing a Sega Mega Drive/Genesis (Model 1) in a smoked acrylic shell, a MiSTer FPGA, and a SCART switch with five SCART inputs and one SCART output being used. The second shelf houses a PS1 (in a frosted acrylic shell), a SNES (in a smoked acrylic shell), and an NES (in a clear acrylic shell with a Ninten-drawer installed).

The Hurvin Anderson exhibition at Tate Britain is eye-opening for me. I didn't really know anything about him, and I'm loving the vibes, the subjects, the treatment and the materials (mostly acrylic on linen).

The Banqueting Palace, 2026
A looming building in a dark grey, rain soaked painting, with figures in the middle ground, on a bike, one riding on the handlebars, reflected in the wet pavement. Bare winter trees are in either side in front of a blue sky.

Anderson explains: 'This is the painting of a memory. I wanted to recapture a walk home from school. The canvas is dominated by a dark sky. Devoid of people, it evokes the twilight of a suburban winter afternoon in England. A lot of the time th…
Passenger Opportunity, 2023-24, Reworked 2026
A huge panelled work featuring verdant scenes on the right and urban on the left. Subjects included slavery - lines of slaves in irons on the right, and family and community on the left. The colours are vibrant acrylic. At the bottom are images of departure, arrival and farewells.
Miss Sylvia, 2011
A striking, simple blue and yellow beach scene, with a single black woman in the middle, in a bikini, with her sun on her head and shoulders. The foliage behind her is portrayed by the absence of the blue background so the yellow wash shows through.
Untitled (Red Flags), 2004
The epic scale of the dark green jungle foliage behind this beach, stretching high above to fill the frame, dwarfs the crowd of people on the beach. There are red dangers flags in front of a red and white parasol. In the distance on the right, a line of fierce surf can be seen. For something so colourful and innocent, this picture of a busy beach gives me a surprising sense of ominous dread.

Claude Sonnet 3.7 describes the image as: "The image shows hands interacting with a transparent acrylic or plastic device that appears to be some kind of experimental apparatus or musical instrument. The hands, wearing a light green or mint-colored sleeve, are manipulating controls or components inside the clear box, which contains various tubes, wires, and electronic elements. Some small red lights are visible inside the device. The apparatus has multiple cylindrical components arranged inside…

went to Waterfront Park where the cherry trees are blossoming and found this commemorative plaque

Photo of the type of informational plaque on a pedestal that you see in parks. This one is rusted and blank. Whatever it was originally intended for is unclear. But someone has written in blue acrylic: "I (heart) drinking pee :3"

There's also a sticker of Hello Kitty on a scooter, and a graffiti scrawl in white chalk that looks like a parade of geometric shapes.

In the background is a tree trunk that's obviously fake, because it doesn't have the yellow paint signature that park rangers ap…

Still not feeling great, but figured today would be a great day to finally test out the entirety of the custom FF6 cart I built so long ago. Broke out the Sony PVM-2530, got everything hooked up, and now it's time to beat all of the things down.
The SNES is modded with Voultar's SNESRGB mod, and the video/audio goes out via a SCART connector into the SCART switch (`gscart`), then into the CMPTR adapter, _then_ into the Sony PVM.
I do have two SCART switches, and if you…

A poor photograph of Terra in bed after being rescued in Narshe on a Sony PVM-2530 CRT running Final Fantasy 6.
The custom shelled Super Nintendo running a custom cart of FF6 with the decensored Ted Woolsey translation in a clear acrylic shell.
The custom CMPTR adapter that allows you to hook up RGB via BNC cables to the Sony PVM-2530. Pretty happy that the CMPTR connector didn't really take off...

It was a revelation to see Nigerian Modernism at the Tate, especially seeing the rooms full of people who clearly felt a strong, personal connection to the work. Here are some of my favourites.
#Art

Obiora Udechukwu - Our Journey, 1993
Four ink and acrylic panels in red and green, with a strong yellow serpent-like shape running through to a coil on the right. The original is very large and impressive.
Demas Nwoko, Night Club in Dakar, 1963

Three dancing couples, the men small and dressed in black, the women large and wearing red dresses. The background is colourful pools of light.
Ben Enwonwu, Negritude, 1973

A tall canvas in dark blue and black tones, featuring a radical curved female nude, side on. She is depicted infront of what look like trees, her head is bowed, creating a gorgeous curve down her back.

RE: glammr.us/@overholt/1163575312
Baking tapes is an old tradition. I'm not sure when the tech changed, or by how much, but story goes the glue holding the magnetics to the acrylic absorbs moisture and gets tacky causing glitches as it plays. Food dehydrators apparently work best.
Be aware: baking works only once (maybe)

We recorded direct to 30-minute 10" reels, keeping a digital copy to use for streaming and the reels bound for mastering to release on vinyl, which is to say this release is optimized for vinyl. Consensus in the room was basically digital is over, we want something physical, like magnetically aligned particles of iron painting the acrylic substrate with the image of our sound at 15"/sec. Real stuff. Not 'bits' out in somebody's cloud.
