with rage everywhere,

as if they were “somehow distinct from being human”.
We all recognise this rage,
but Ardern was at the centre of it,
representing progressive politics, tough Covid measures, empathy, emotion, anti-racism, femaleness;
a symbol of a different time, more rational…

When Nixon adopted Goldwater’s Southern Strategy and won, that was a party realignment. The new foundation of the Republican coalition was “throw anti-Black racism lots of ethnonationalist red meat so they support the concentration of wealth.”
I’d venture that ethnonationalism captured to concentrate power is (or inexorably becomes) fascism. Nixon’s realignment made the Republican Party the fascist party.

My current big picture view:
Politics-wise -- Anti-Black racism is still Americas biggest problem -- only it literally harms EVERYONE ELSE proportionally much more because we're surviving, perhaps even thriving, AROUND it.

Just quietly, I spent a lot of November- April mentally preparing myself for a Trump-alike in Australia.
That resoundingly didn't happen, I am so thankful!! Whatever faults Albanese has, he is not Dutton and doesn't have Dutton's track record of racism/anti-immigration.
But I am noticing myself being cautious and self-censoring when responding to posts about the US. Even when I'm simply liking pro-democracy, pro-rule-of-law content! I guess I'm not ready to let my guard down yet
