It took me way too long, but I finally migrated from PostgreSQL 13 to 17. The last two times I started working on it, I wasn't able to finish. I was convinced that a direct upgrade would have been best and got lost in researching how to do that with my setup (unraid, docker). Today, I went the backup restore route and was done in half an hour.

The built-in database backup and restore feature in Kitten¹ (that actually works and is in the Kitten Settings section of every Kitten app) just saved my ass (again) :)

Finally got my messaging apps transferred over to the GrapheneOS device!
For Signal, I had to restore a backup file: device-to-device sync failed.
For WhatsApp, I had to use a 5GHz 802.11ac network for the device-to-device transfer; 2.4GHz 802.11ax and 802.11n did not work, resulting in the very helpful error message "something went wrong." I cleaned up the old Apple keyboard (removed all keys, removed all crumbs, reassembled) and first, I’m surprised how much larger it is than the newer version…
Second, it’s so mushy. I can’t use it, it feels terrible to type on!
I’m going to try a Kisnt KN85 this week and we’ll see how that feels.

Eons ago, in 2012, I had a weird experience.
My iPhone suddenly shut down.
When I restarted it, I found it was totally reset—clean, like a new device.
This was the early days of iOS, so I wasn’t too concerned until I went to connect it to my computer to restore it from a backup.
But when I flipped open the lid of my laptop, it too was mid-restart.
And then, suddenly, the screen went gray. It was being remotely wiped.
