Huh, UK is down to ~1.5GW of gas elec generation at the moment, I'm not sure if that's our lowest ever, but I bet it's damn close (and exporting over 2GW) - windy day and moderate solar (and I guess the rain washed all the solar panels...)

I bet a lot of folks (especially on the tech side) have just stopped paying attention to crypto, which is perfectly sane because we all know that it’s bad technology. On the other hand, the finance sector, with MAGA cheerleading, is still wildly enthusiastic. See newsletterhunt.com/emails/1894

I bet this (extremely photogenic) trash can has seen things you wouldn’t believe. Spotted last night at EXIT/IN in #Nashville

A rectangular trashcan with the words exit/in written on it and spray paint stencil. Bathed in red light and looking pretty worn and wise.

"Journalism screwed itself over by betting
on Meta and its profit-over-society peers.
Now, nobody trusts “the media” and
everyone is going bankrupt. The next bet
is on generative AI, with its inability to
distinguish truth from “hallucinations” –
fabrications that on the page become lies.
The Continent is an attempt to prove
journalism can be done differently.
Expect more of this in what our team
has decided to call our “serious era”.
We’re no longer a start-up. We’re going
to empower more people with quality
journalism. We’re going to help others
launch newspapers. We’re going to
stay sane. And we’re going to prove
that African excellence can set global
standards."

This weeks highlights are an extraordinary story about how Zanu-PF in Zimbabwe directly interfered with Mozambique's election. Plus a frankly beautiful photo piece on Addis Ababa

Australian Green Party crushed in election after running hard on anti-Israel platform & attacking Labor govt as "complicit in genocide." 1st-choice vote (AU has ranked-vote system) drops from 12.25% to 11.75%, despite gains from Muslim voters. In races where final choice is Green vs Labor, more conservative voters overcome their past distaste for union-dominated Labor & transfers run massively against Greens.
Result: Greens lose at least 2 and maybe all 4 of their seat…

I bet all those blue-collar MAGA people in middle America are jazzed that their god-king cut federal funding for tornado warnings...

I’ve been a longtime fan of the band Lettuce (@lettucefunk elsewhere), but I was a little skeptical of their live album w/ the Colorado Symphony.
That was a mistake b/c this album is amazing!
Just so super cool how much the orchestra adds, and I bet it was an absolute blast to perform & record!

How much would you bet that there is no "trafficking" ring at all? What are the odds that there aren't even any children in this story? How likely is it that there were some cops on-line pretending to be teenagers, tricking some lonely men into typing "Yeah, I'd like to see your nude selfies."?

I really appreciate in how bad Amazon is at recommendations in 2025, when everything else is headed for some kind of AI fine-tuned personalization. Meanwhile Amazon is like "I see you bought an allen wrench last month, I bet you want even more allen wrenches"
