It seems like I need to have an informed opinion on systemd.
I've instinctively disliked it, ever since I closed the parent process of a long-running stats model in a subprocess I had nohupped, and the subprocess went "poof!" because systemd had decided that nohup shouldn't mean nohup any more. Apparently users didn't need it.
