Something that’s been bothering me for years in the security world: why do researchers demand bug bounties for vulnerabilities in open source projects, when the very contributors maintaining and fixing those issues get nothing, just goodwill?
It feels deeply unfair. The burden falls on unpaid maintainers, yet bounty hunters get rewarded. If you want a paid bounty, maybe help fund the people who actually fix the mess too.

In a valiant attempt to keep the world at bay, I have been doing another playthrough of Mass Effect. This time, it was misbehaving in various ways in the Citadel DLC. I restarted after it froze, which unblocked things but now if I invited person A for a hangout, person B would show up. Odd things like that.

We measure the CP asymmetry in $D^+ \to π^+ π^0$ decays reconstructed in $e^+ e^-$ collisions at the Belle II experiment using a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 428 fb$^{-1}$. I finally solved a mistery which was bothering me for months. #Thunderbird was flagging most but not all messages in one of my mailboxes as important. I could not find any setting or rule in Thunderbird responsible for this behavior. Finally I found the root cause which was the #Nextcloud Webmail App which I have configured but rarely use. 🙈
