That PC whose fan dropped off the other week has been bodged into working. I used a couple of plastic strips and motherboard mounts to hold them to the board with screws in the right place for the heatsink; but I found it needed more pressure on the fan for it to make good contact with the CPU, especially at the top; so outcomes the wood. This is working reasonably well; although the wedge positioning is a bit touchy to get it right.

Abstract: We study the gravitational effective action induced, at first order in the deformation parameter, by non-local $T\bar T$-like deformations of quantum field theories. Using a heat-kernel formulation, we extract the local geometric terms generated by stress-tensor two-point functions, and apply the construction to free fermions, massive Maxwell theory, and second-order Yang-Mills theory. While the resulting coefficients are generally model dependent, conformal field theories contain a universal sector fixed by the central charge $C_T$. After regularization and renormalization, this sector yields finite, scheme-independent contributions organized into a finite set of curvature invariants. We further analyze trace-trace deformations, for which the relevant contact terms are determined by the Weyl anomaly, and derive the corresponding finite gravitational action for a general class of minimal non-local kernels. These results provide a quantum effective-action realization of induced gravity in which universal conformal data determine calculable contributions to the emergent geometric response.

Abstract: We develop a generalized contact Hamiltonian framework by extending canonical contact Hamiltonian mechanics to nonlinear dissipative systems through the replacement of the classical linear contact potential with a smooth nonlinear contact potential. The proposed formulation establishes a generalized energy dissipation law together with a structural characterization of admissible contact-induced damping, introducing effective contact dissipation as an intrinsic geometric measure of adaptive dissipation. As an application, a generalized contact Duffing oscillator is derived, in which dissipation emerges intrinsically from the contact geometry rather than being introduced phenomenologically. Numerical investigations of the generalized contact Duffing oscillator demonstrate that nonlinear contact geometry governs the effective dissipation and produces significant changes in the phase-space structure, energy decay, dynamical stability, and long-term nonlinear behavior. The proposed theory therefore provides a systematic geometric framework for constructing and analyzing nonlinear dissipative Hamiltonian systems within contact Hamiltonian mechanics.

Abstract: Infrared thermography provides a contact-free, restraint-free method to record surface temperatures. It serves as a valuable marker for thermoregulatory responses in laboratory animal stress and pharmacology research. However, the analysis of these images is currently bottlenecked by the manual delineation of anatomical regions. To date, no public dataset has provided paired radiometric thermal frames of rats with pixel-level body-part labels. We present a dataset of 1,655 quality-controlled radiometric thermal frames from 25 laboratory rats. Each frame is paired with a dense four-class anatomical segmentation mask (background, head, body, and tail) and the raw $480 \times 640$ temperature matrix (rows $\times$ columns) in degrees Celsius. This ensures every label is registered directly to the physical temperature it describes rather than a color-mapped rendering. The frames originate from two pharmacological cohorts where interventions alter thermoregulation in opposite directions: ethanol, which induces peripheral vasodilation, and ketamine, which affects central thermoregulation. This provides a wide and physiologically diverse range of surface temperature regimes. Aggregated across the dataset, the per-class temperatures follow a head~$>$~body~$>$~tail ordering in physical units. To demonstrate that the data support pixel-level segmentation directly from the radiometric channel, we present an exploratory U-Net segmentation pipeline that attains a subject-level cross-validated mean intersection-over-union of $0.895 \pm 0.006$. The dataset provides a reuse-ready benchmark for thermal semantic segmentation and for downstream physiological and stress-phenotyping analyses.

Abstract: Classical definitions of envelopes are vague for singular curves in the Lorentz-Minkowski plane. To study envelopes of such curves, we introduce a family of smooth curves that may admit singular points. Notably, the curves considered here may contain both non-lightlike and lightlike points. We then propose a new definition of envelopes for such curves and investigate their properties using lightlike tangential data. Furthermore, we examine the contact between the curves and their envelopes at singular points.
