For most of the pandemic Australia has worked to contain the virus through evidence-based public health measures such as border closures, case finding, contact tracing, quarantine, social distancing, vaccines and, at times, lockdown. Sadly, the weaponisation of lockdown as a pointscoring issue and emotional trigger has led to a conflation of lockdown with all other public health measures, most of which do not impinge on freedoms. Denial is a major theme during the pandemic.

And after you write the message yourself, it is fed to a completely useless LLM that tells you how to disable account. Except that the process doesn't work, because as the bottom hint notes, if you have any active sponsors, you need to contact support instead 🤦. Well, at least it eventually lets you send that support request.
At least #KoFi lets you remove memberships yourself. It also lets you remove the account entirely but apparently not deactivate it. For that, there's apparently a support request. Sent one, let's see how it goes.

The implementation combines a high-order ADER-DG polynomial representation, a local space-time DG predictor, adaptive mesh refinement, and an a posteriori subcell finite-volume limiter. We test the code on a deliberately mixed set of one- and two-dimensional problems: a strong-shock Sod-type problem, the Shu-Osher shock-entropy interaction, the Woodward-Colella blast wave, a contact-driven vortex sheet, and a shock-interface interaction. The one-dimensional cases recover the expected Euler wave patterns and show clear order-dependent gains in smooth and oscillatory regions. The two-dimensional cases probe a different part of the method, namely contact preservation, shear-driven roll-up, baroclinic vorticity deposition, and Richtmyer-Meshkov-type growth. In these tests the high-order update gives the expected resolution away from discontinuities, whereas the subcell limiter keeps the calculation stable near shocks and steep interfaces. The resulting code provides a reproducible ExaHyPE implementation for idealised inviscid, non-relativistic flows in which shocks, contacts, and multidimensional interfaces are the dominant features.

It’s not realistic to ask people to *never* click a link in email. We’ve got 30 years of experience with that advice not working because MUA developers have never stopped making links active & aggressively looking for anything in email that might be a link, regardless of URL conformance. That’s why SpamAssassin treats so many non-URLs as if they are URLs. Users will click clickable things. Telling them not to do so is unreasonable.

Abstract: The basic and effective reproduction numbers are widely used metrics for characterizing the dynamics of infectious disease epidemics. However, the interpretation of these numbers is based on the assumption of homogeneous mixing and may not hold in real-world populations where the contact patterns deviate from that assumption. In this paper, we present a network-based framework to compare reproduction numbers in populations with and without spatial structure, while other parameters of the disease remain fixed. Using this framework, we show that in homogeneously mixed populations, in the absence of external interventions, the effective reproduction number decreases exponentially as the susceptible population declines. In contrast, in spatially structured populations, the basic reproduction number is smaller, and the effective reproduction number initially decreases faster but eventually converges to unity. We show that the reproduction number is determined by the level of competition between infectious nodes, which is governed by the network structure. Our results suggest that without knowledge of the network structure, reproduction numbers may not be informative for parameterizing the contagiousness of the disease or predicting the behavior of epidemic spreading.

Last week I made GF cardamom buns as part of my Easter dinner. But I had a first pass where I put the psyllium husk into the dry ingredients instead of the proofed yeast & milk (where it would gel). I held onto that batch of dry ingredients and salvaged it yesterday.
The buns came out well, but spread quite a lot. They still had a good texture and density, so I don’t know how much my psyllium oops was a factor.
Still learning GF yeasted baking.
