I’m trying hard to simply respond “I’m not available” rather than explaining (= justifying) that I’m attending conference XYZ, etc.
However, sometimes this information CAN be useful. I’ve been trying to reach a foreign colleague, who replied that he’s attending “a conference,” period. Turns out that this is a conference I might be attending, too, and indeed, one of my colleagues in the department is. This information would have made things so much easier!
