Today (September 3) in 1991, the Smithereens released Blow Up. It's a very '90s album, with some interesting songs on this one. Kinda almost adult contemporary in spots. But still a ton of rock, and the unreal 'If You Want the Sun to Shine'- one of my favorite songs ever. There's an instrumental version of it that's truly wild.

Tom Lehrer, the Harvard-trained mathematician whose wickedly iconoclastic songs made him a favorite satirist in the 1950s and ’60s on college campuses and in all the Greenwich Villages of the country,
died on Saturday at his home in Cambridge, Mass.
He was 97.
His death was confirmed by David Herder, a friend.
Mr. Lehrer’s lyrics were nimble, sometimes salacious and almost always sardonic,
sung to music that tended to be maddeningly cheerful.

#NowPlaying The first Static-X song I heard, on the radio, in 1999, when I was 19 -- "Push It". The sound. It's unforgettable. Not even one of my top favorite songs of theirs, but still so damn badass. And then to see the video- this one's one of the greats. There's a reason 'Wisconsin Death Trip' went platinum.

The Smithereens anthology 'From Jersey it Came' was released in September 2004. In 2004 I was 24. The Smithereens had been my favorite band for a while at that point, so this was a treat for a megafan like me.
