Since at least the moment Facebook introduced (and apologized for) its News Feed, “the algorithm” has been shorthand for the ways the tech giants control what we see and when we see it. In the age of enshittification, there is a push to reclaim our feeds and networks. Good news: there’s a tool that’s been around for decades that can help wrangle many of your feeds into something manageable: Really Simple Syndication, more commonly known as RSS.

This is the way. Unless the profits from data centers return to communities, it's just extraction.
And data centers don't really bring that many jobs. They're a few guys replacing parts as stuff burns out. Maintenance on power feeds. But mostly they sit there, trying to stay cool.

After using Tapestry & Reeder streams for the last week or such,
I got a confirmation for something I suspected.
When combining social media (in my case Mastodon, Bluesky) with RSS feeds, it became obvious how much volume comes from social media and how little it actually fits my interests.
The overlap with RSS feeds it's not immensely different, but the volume is much lower and feels less overwhelming.

Not a privacy tool, but I love #protopage for an at-a-glace overview of your RSS feeds:

I don’t get into the Bluesky vs Mastodon debate. I instead use both platforms. If you do as well, might I suggest Indigo by @…? Get your feeds together in one app and react/engage with posts.
